Nokia Builds A Touchscreen From Ice
A team at Nokia has created the world's first touch screen made of ice.
Dubbed Ubice – short for ubiquitous ice -, the system works by projecting infrared light onto the ice screen. When the user touches the screen, his hands reflect the infrared light which is then detected by a sensor. A traditional projector is used to project images on the icy surface.
"This was a playful experiment, but one that we think showed interactive computing interfaces can now be built anywhere," says Jyri Huopaniemi at Nokia's research lab in Tampere, whose Context-Aware Social Media team built the icy touchscreen.
