PSP Is Officially Discontinued

Nearly a decade after its debut, the original PlayStation Portable has finally been discontinued in Japan.

In the official announcement, Sony admitted that this move is a part of a push to sell more PS Vita units in Japan.

PSP was originally launched in Japan in December 2004. Since then, Sony launched disc-less PSP GO in October 2009 and PS Vita in December 2011. PSP GO was discontinued in April 2011.

During its 10 years in market, the original PSP sold more than 80 million units worldwide.
