Triple-i Initiative 2026: The Best Indie Game Announcements from the Showcase

Event: Triple-i Initiative Showcase 2026  |  Organizer: Evil Empire  |  Date: April 9, 2026  |  Total Announcements: 40+ games shown  |  Coverage: Top highlights below

The third annual Triple-i Initiative Showcase ran on April 9, 2026 and delivered over 40 game announcements in under 45 minutes with no ads, no hosts, and no filler. Evil Empire, the French studio behind the Castlevania revival, organized the event. As a result, it has established itself as one of the most reliable indie showcases in the industry. Below are the most significant announcements for hardcore gamers, from games launching within days to titles worth adding to your watchlist right now.

The Headline Games

Windrose (Early Access: April 14, 2026)

Windrose stands out as the most urgent announcement from the entire showcase. The pirate survival adventure from Windrose Crew amassed over 1.5 million Steam wishlists, making it the eighth most wishlisted game on the platform. Furthermore, it entered Steam Early Access on April 14, 2026, just five days after the showcase. The game combines open-world naval combat, survival systems, and co-op gameplay in an alternate Age of Piracy setting. Players who tried the demo before launch gave it a Very Positive rating on Steam.

Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse (TBA)

Evil Empire used its own showcase to reveal a new gameplay trailer for Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse, the 2D Castlevania revival it is developing for Konami. The studio has not confirmed a release date yet. However, the trailer generated the most immediate community discussion of any single announcement at the event. Consequently, this is the one title from the showcase that deserves its own dedicated article.

Prove You’re Human (TBA)

Sunset Visitor, the studio behind 1000xResist, announced its follow-up at the showcase. Prove You’re Human is a sci-fi horror game where the player must convince an AI that it is not human. Black Tabby Publishing handles publishing duties. The studio has not confirmed a release date. Nevertheless, given the critical reputation of their previous work, this ranks among the most anticipated narrative games currently in development.

Thick as Thieves (May 20, 2026)

Warren Spector, the creator of Deus Ex and System Shock, leads development at OtherSide Entertainment on this stealth-action heist game. Megabit publishes the title, which launches on May 20, 2026. Notably, the team recently shifted the game from a PvPvE model to solo and co-op play. This decision aligns it much more closely with Spector’s signature immersive sim philosophy.

New Announcements and World Premieres

Temtem: Pioneers

Crema announced a major new direction for the Temtem franchise. Temtem: Pioneers replaces the original turn-based battle system with real-time action and survival mechanics. As a result, it targets players who found the original too close to Pokemon in pace and structure.

Crop

Carbonara Games developed Crop with 11 bit Studios handling publishing. The game is a dark farming thriller where a kidnapped character must farm to survive while uncovering who imprisoned them. 11 bit Studios also published Frostpunk and This War of Mine, which brings significant credibility to this project.

Too Deep to Quit

Demon Max built this co-op adventure game around Indiana Jones-style trap sequences. Additionally, players produce viral clips for a social media algorithm while hunting for treasure. It is one of the more genuinely original concepts from the entire showcase.

Don’t Starve Elsewhere

Klei Entertainment announced a full sequel to the Don’t Starve franchise. Don’t Starve Elsewhere features multi-tiered levels and built-in co-op from launch. This directly addresses the most common criticism players had about the original game’s multiplayer implementation.

Graveyard Keeper 2

Lazy Bear Games and tinyBuild confirmed a sequel to the cult management sim. The new entry features more graves, a bigger town to manage, and the same morally ambiguous decision-making the original built its reputation on. The studio has not announced a release date. However, the original Graveyard Keeper went free on Steam the same day as the announcement, making this the ideal moment to catch up.

Machine Party

Mike Klubnika and Oro Interactive built Machine Party as a collection of brutal party games where failure is permanently fatal. The developers have not confirmed a release date yet.

Lost Railway

Crossbridge Game Studios and Polden are developing Lost Railway as a post-apocalyptic 2D co-op horror game. The team has not announced a release date.

Away Team

Klei Entertainment announced Away Team as a spin-off of Oxygen Not Included. The game adds co-op multiplayer to the studio’s beloved colony sim universe. Closed single-player sessions are starting soon.

Games to Add to Your Watchlist Now

Neverway (October 2026)

Neverway finally has a confirmed release window of October 2026 for PC and Nintendo Switch. The artist behind Celeste created the pixel art, and Disasterpeace, the composer behind the Fez and Hyper Light Drifter soundtracks, handles the music. The game is a Zelda-style action RPG with a nightmarish life-sim twist. Moreover, a free prologue is already available on Steam right now.

Alabaster Dawn (May 7, Early Access)

Radical Fish Games, the studio behind CrossCode, developed Alabaster Dawn as an action RPG that builds directly on CrossCode’s deep combat system and challenging puzzle design. A well-received demo released last autumn gave players an early taste. Early Access opens on May 7, 2026 on PC via Steam.

over the hill

Strelka Games and Funselektor Labs developed over the hill, which has already surpassed one million Steam wishlists. A public playtest runs from April 24 to 26, giving players a free hands-on opportunity before release. Additionally, the showcase revealed a new Algeria biome. The developers have not confirmed a specific release date beyond a general 2026 window.

Long Gone (2027)

Hillfort Games and Outersloth are building Long Gone as a 3D pixel-art narrative adventure set in a suburban area long after a zombie outbreak. The game does not release until 2027. However, the distinctive art style and concept make it worth adding to your wishlist now.

Bottom Line

The Triple-i Initiative has now delivered three consecutive years of genuinely useful indie news without the bloat of a mainstream showcase. Furthermore, this edition was its strongest yet. Windrose launched just days after the event and is already live. Thick as Thieves and Alabaster Dawn follow in May, and Neverway arrives in October. Overall, the back half of 2026 is shaping up to be one of the strongest years for indie games in recent memory, and this showcase served as the clearest proof of that.
