Industrial Light and Magic is working on Star Wars VR

Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality are some of the most exciting technologies of the near future and both have caught on to the point where big names in various industries are starting to take note. Industrial Light and Magic for example, which is currently working on some VR experiences for Star Wars fans.

In a short demonstration video ILMxLAB shows some of the types of augmented experience they are working on, from interacting with life size dinosaurs, to having conversations with C3PO and watching a blaster war from up close with the storm troopers themselves.

Beyond being mere viewers though, the developers have made experiences where you can touch and change the way characters act in certain scenes and even build the worlds from within them, placing trees and other objects by hand, or orienting them from the VR perspective, so that the scene looks best from that view point.

"For several years, the company has been investing in real-time graphics – building a foundation that allows ILMxLAB to deliver interactive imagery at a fidelity never seen before. As this new dimension in storytelling unfolds, ILMxLAB will develop virtual reality, augmented reality, real-time cinema, theme park entertainment and narrative-based experiences for future platforms," the team said.
