EA Defends Developer Who Posted Top Score Review Of His Game

Metacritic users were outraged when they found out that a BioWare developer masqueraded as a player and posted a user review giving Dragon Age 2 - which he co-developed - a perfect score.

Adding insult to injury, EA defended the developer's action.

Under the name "Avanost", the BioWare developer gave Dragon Age 2 a 10 out of 10 score in a user review that went as far as claiming that "the immersion and combat of this game are unmatched! A truly moving and fun epic. Anything negative you'll see about this game is an overreaction of personal preference. For what it is, it is flawlessly executed and endlessly entertaining."

After discovering Avanost's true identity Metacritic users became outraged for being deceived and questioned BioWare's ethics and integrity.

On the other hand, EA tried to downplay the matter as "the done thing", with an EA senior public relations manager claiming that "of course the people who make the game vote for their own game."

"That's how it works in the Oscars, that's how it works in the Grammy's and why I'm betting that Barack Obama voted for himself in the last election," they added.

Needless to say, the review has since been deleted.

BioWare makes shitty games....

but they make pretty good animated movies, I don't know about DA 'cuz I never played it & never will but I'd give ME & ME2 maybe solid fives, outta 10. These things get "game of the year" all over the place & perfect scores & they're shit. They're total shit. "I'm Commander Shepherd, the super powered space marine that saves the galaxy from giant mechanized squid ships but I CAN'T EVEN FUCKING JUMP!!!!" Nor do I ever fight in zero G or do I take control of my own space ship to fight battles in outter space in my story that is entirely about SPACE COMBAT!!!!

This shit fucking sucks!!! It's no RPG. It's no shooter (don't get me started on why TPS's suck) & IT'S NOT EVEN A FUCKING GAME!!! Yet the story leaves me wanting to see what happens next. It's innovative because you can carry over saves to the sequels & there are so many courses you can take, that they have to incorporate & that makes it captivating. It's like a "choose your own adventure" movie & that's pretty fuckin' cool. That's what I pay them for, not for a good game because it's hardly a game @ all.

As for this Meta bullshit, WTF do any of you buttnut cunt farts think DOESN'T masquerade as an average user posting positive reviews on their products all over the place?!!! Over half the MS defenders you ever see in here work for 'em. Half the "anti-piracy" propaganda you read on MG like "support the dev's, it cost's a lot of money to make a game so buy it" is written by dev's who want you to pay $60 for their $20 game. The only way you'll know if you like something is if YOU try it. Everyone elses opinion is everyone elses OPINION. An "overreaction of personal preference" is someones opinion, just like the one stating that if you hated it you had said "overreaction".

Facebook sucks, the Facebook movie sucks, & everyone that likes either one, or both, sucks. So suck my ass buttnuts.

Another one falls

Bioware really has gone down the drain. EA corrupted it through and through.

I was seriously considering DA2 but now I'm afraid I wont be buying any of their games again.

to be honest, the game is

to be honest, the game is excellent, great story line and great moves (esp if your playing as a rogue)... they went overboard defending the situation but honestly the game deserves to be play regardless of the attitude.

the rogues combat moves are amazing, jump-- bounce here and there .. back-stab stealth etc... and the way the picture the motion is great

im not defending EA here , I just think the game is great.

This is the first time ive

This is the first time ive read the comments on megagames and gave a thumbs up to everyone who participated. Usually its filled with trollers or people who review a game based on if it runs on their PC or not. Yes i do agree that forging a review from a consumer shows lack of integrity and that trying to put a biblical spin on why you shouldn't question the game design shows a lack of conviction and a total inability to take criticism. Anyone in the world who doesn't pay attention to criticism is doomed to fail eventually. I understand that people can be hard on you or your creations and that sometimes you should know better than to take it personally every time some punk kid opens his mouth, but thinking you are 2 steps above perfection just so you cant get your feelings hurt ever again is asinine. Theres a small ring of truth to every insult you sustain in life, and it should be your job to correct the mistake, or see it for what it really is.

Well put brother....

I especially like the "Biblical spin" part, like they expect you to believe it just 'cuz they said so w/out actually having to prove that it's true. Like their opinion is right 'cuz it's their opinion & they're right because they want to be so they are.

My mom's always right because Jesus said so.

Not sure about the insult part though, you'll likely sustain insults from people that were actually the ones deserving of those insults. Like the punk kid shooting his mouth off, he's probably a moron that couldn't install a light bulb nevermind create anything others would use/enjoy.

Not the first time

This is not the first time this sort of thing has happened, and it won't be the last.
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to metacritic to make multiple accounts to give negative reviews to Dragon Age II.

It's only fair, right?

People voting for themselves

People voting for themselves when the option is given to them isn't quite the same as voluntarily writing a review (under a false name) for their own product and insulting the personal preferences and intelligence of their consumers.

If it was a poll for 'best RPG of the year' then it wouldn't have been so frowned upon for him to give his own game the simple +1 vote. How EA could compare it to the Oscars, Grammys and even Obama is beyond me.

The Endless Scenery

Yes i guess walking through the exact same dungeon dozens of times through the entire game does warrent a 10 out of 10 score. Its a good game but they failed hard when they got really lazy on the actual level design.

...and also that it wasn't an

...and also that it wasn't an independent review.

Reviews and critics must NOT be done by intervening parties with interests along the way. The can advertise it on their own site, but not by doing in a stealthy way, mascarading itself as common player. And it was done on the critics side, not on the users reviews, which were very low on rating, making people think it was metacritic's reviewers job.

That was the must absurd statement i have read...
