Dark and Darker Gets Pulled from Epic Games Store, Players Get Unwanted Refunds

Dark and Darker, the once-hyped fantasy PvEvP dungeon crawler, is about to vanish completely from the Epic Games Store. But this removal isn’t your usual delisting. Players are being refunded automatically, whether they want it or not, and the game will be wiped from user libraries on November 1, 2025.

A Rare Move from Epic

Typically, when games get pulled from stores, they remain in the players’ libraries. Epic, however, is taking an unusual step, referencing a Korean court ruling from February 2025 that found Ironmace, the game’s developer, guilty of breaching business secrets (while clearing them of copyright infringement). The exact reason for this extreme action wasn’t shared by Epic, leaving many players confused and frustrated.

A Turbulent History

Dark and Darker, often called “Fantasy Tarkov,” first made waves in 2023 with a massive rise on Steam before being hit with legal disputes between Ironmace and former publisher Nexon. After being temporarily banned from Steam, it returned, only to now face a full removal from Epic’s ecosystem.

Players who purchased the Legends Status (30 Euros) will receive refunds automatically, and in-game currency purchases are no longer available. The game has already been removed from sale, but the total wipe from user accounts is a rare and drastic move in the gaming world.

What About Steam?

Currently, the Steam version of Dark and Darker remains available, including its Legends Status and in-game currency purchases. Ironmace, despite accepting the Korean court’s ruling to pay Nexon around $6 million in damages, has not indicated any immediate plans to remove the game from Steam. Nexon, meanwhile, plans to appeal the decision.

Dark and Darker’s removal from the Epic Games Store marks another chapter in the turbulent story of a game that can’t seem to catch a break. For now, the community waits to see if the same fate will hit the Steam version, or if the dungeon crawling will continue there unbothered.
