League of Legends makes up a quarter of all game traffic

League of Legends might be a decade old at this point and there may be new darling games like Fortnite, PubG, Overwatch, and more stealing its limelight, but it's still arguably the most played Esports title in the world. So much so in fact, that its online traffic makes up more than a quarter of all gaming traffic.

League of Legends launched in 2009 in the wake of the original DotA mod's popularity and swiftly grew to be the most popular game in the world. Its easy to learn, hard to master gameplay combined well with its free to play business model and focus on gaining ranks, skill, and an ever-increasing number of champions to play with. Over the years it's grown the pro-gaming scene along with it and today tens of millions continue to play it all over the world.

Those players make up some 26.42 percent of all gaming traffic, according to PCGamesN. To give that some contest, Fortnite only accounts for some 15 percent of gaming traffic, while Overwatch reaches just 12 percent.

If you're wondering how this can be when none of your friends play LoL anymore, it should perhaps come as no surprise that Eastern markets are a major source of this traffic. League of Legends is still the top game in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, with a 36.24 percent share of all traffic there. Fortnite is more popular in America, both North, and South.

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds takes the top spot in Asian regions, with LoL falling to fourth place there.
