How could Microsoft make Windows better for gaming?

As much as Windows is the premier gaming platform on PCs, way ahead of the likes of MacOS, Linux, or Chrome OS, it's far from perfect. Driver compatibility, performance concerns, and crashes are some of the biggest complaints from gamers all over the world. For once, though, it appears Microsoft is listening. It's reached out to the gaming community to ask what features it could deliver to improve the Windows experience for gamers and they have answered in droves.

The Microsoft "ideas drive," is focused around its ideas collection portal where Microsoft asked three questions:

  • What do you want Windows to do (or stop doing) while you’re playing a game?
  • What can Windows do to optimize your gaming experience?
  • What other gaming features would you like to see?

The most popular response so far, with more than 700 votes, asks Microsoft to automatically disable unneeded processes when a game starts, to help overall performance. Others want a version of Windows that is created specifically for gaming, while others still want to be able to launch games with a controller. Another group wants driver updates to be automated for major releases, especially when it comes to improving game compatibility and optimization.

What kind of things would you like Microsoft to do for gaming on Windows? Let it know!
