Ubisoft Installs Backdoors On Uplay User PCs

Ubisfot has become the subject of yet another security fiasco after Google security engineer, Tavis Ormandy found that their Uplay software opens a dangerous backdoor on their customers’ PCs.

The backdoor resides in a browser plug-in that is installed alongside all new Ubisoft titles. The plugin is used to verify Ubisoft games’ authenticity in order to grant users access to Uplay services such as online play and achievements. Unfortunately, the way the plugin is written means that any malicious website can use it to gain access to the user’s files or run any programs on the his machine.

According to our security experts, the vulnerability seems to be a legitimate unintentional super screw up.

Ubisoft has acknowledged the problem and promised to release a patch within a few hours. In the meanwhile, if you have Uplay installed on your PC, make sure to disable its plugin in your browser.

quit whining

There's no reason to freak out over this. It was acknowledged quickly and fixed quickly. It won't stop me from buying Ubisoft games because they are genuinely good games. Some people will look for any excuse to justify their thievery.

quit whining indeed

As much as I hate drm and don't buy ubisoft's games anymore, (even if some games are really good). Some backdoor like this doesn't mean they want to scam you or spy on you. As has been said: patched immediately. No big deal imo, human error. You may as well refrain from posting nonsense crap.

he got me on ubisoft making genuinely good games... right. More like they tell their investors - we will get the game done in 50% the development time, less money and we'll also slap DRM on so u can be guaranteed of more revenue. While at it, Uplay is gonna be Steam+1... right. Nothing UBI works, nothing, as a paid customer i wasted over 100 hours on getting around their nonworking systems/games.

u might be one of those guys

u might be one of those guys who dont mind their relatives, sister or what, being bang by the dude next door, while being watch by 5 other people. this is serious, installing backdoor to user pc cant be forgiven by any means.

yet another reason to go

yet another reason to go pirate UBI's games! id say, punish them for this outrageous vulnerability. this is intentional, UBI want to snoop around customer's pc. lets everyone download and distribute FREE Ubi game.

the anno series

anno series is the only thing with ubi's name on it that i have installed awesome games btw.... and they are all from torrents BECAUSE they have ubisoft's name
