Final Fantasy XIV takes place in a world called Hydaelyn, specifically in the region of Eorzea, and features a contemporary aesthetic blend of classic high fantasy and science fiction elements.[1][12] Players create and customise an Avatar, and are then set free into the world, being able to compete and cooperate with other players in a variety of objectives to progress through the games story, develop an assortment of jobs and skills, and earn in-game item rewards.
