Geralt often feels sluggish by default, since he keeps walking after you let go. The Responsive Movement and Combat mod makes him react faster on foot, on horseback, and in a fight. It tunes running turns to the game’s own animations, so Geralt follows your steering more closely. As a result, combat and travel feel sharper, while damage and stamina stay as they are.

What’s Included

  • ResponsiveMovement: The main file, with a Mods folder and a bin folder that hold the whole mod.
  • ResponsiveMovement Japanese and Korean Translation: An optional add-on that adds Japanese and Korean menu texts.
  • Instant Input: Applies your input right away instead of after the game’s small wait, so Geralt stops sooner when you let go.
  • Tighter Turns: Lets Geralt turn tighter while running, so small direction changes no longer drop him to a walk.
  • Smooth Starts and Stops: Speeds up starting, stopping, and turning around, then blends them in and out so nothing jerks.
  • Aimed Attacks and Signs: Sends sword swings and the Aard, Igni, and Axii signs to your target instead of thin air. Transitions between sword attacks run a little shorter.
  • Sharper Horse Handling: Makes the horse slow down sooner and turn more sharply, then lets it gallop as soon as you press Shift.
  • Optional Extras: Optional settings add faster swimming, faster climbing, and a single-tap dismount, so both keyboard and controller players can use them.
  • Speed Safeguard: Never pushes Geralt past the speed the game allows, so any unusual event restores his normal speed on its own.

Why You Need This Mod

Your input lands right away, so Geralt follows your steering instead of drifting on. Dialogue, cutscenes, and aiming stay untouched, since the mod only adjusts movement and combat. Therefore, you can add it to any playthrough without rebalancing anything.

How to Get Started

  1. Download your preferred variant and extract the archive to your PC.
  2. Next, copy the Mods and bin folders from ResponsiveMovement into your game folder, the one that also contains content.
  3. Then, if you want Japanese or Korean menu texts, extract ResponsiveMovement Japanese and Korean Translation into the same folder. Let it overwrite the two files.
  4. Finally, start the game, since the scripts compile automatically on startup.
  5. On Linux, folder names are case sensitive. So if your game folder already has a lowercase mods folder, put modResponsiveMovement there instead.
  6. To update, copy the new files over the old ones, and your settings carry over.
  7. To uninstall, delete the Mods\modResponsiveMovement folder and the bin\config\r4game\user_config_matrix\pc\modResponsiveMovement.xml file.

Good to Know

  • This mod includes AI-generated media.
  • If you install Better Horse Controls and switch it on, Responsive Movement leaves the gallop key to it. Therefore, Gallop Without Delay and the jump into a canter from a standstill stay off.
  • With many mods, some settings pages can stay black because of a display limit in the Mods menu. Mods Menu Pagination or Mod Settings Menu Fix solves this.
  • If you use Nearest Target Chase, do not set Combat Mode to Nearest Enemy.
  • The mod replaces no game scripts, so you do not need Script Merger.
