God Of War Will Tackle Egyptian And Mayan Mythologies
PlayStation 4ās Norse-mythology-based God of War is not out yet, but director Cory Barlog has already revealed that the series will likely visit the Egyptian and Mayan eras in next installments.
āThe Greek games were the Greek era of God of War,ā he told Game Informer. āMoving on, the next mythological belief system he interacts with became the Norse era of God of War. But we may end up going on to the Egyptian era and the Mayan era and so on and so forth.ā
In the same interview, Sony Santa Monica boss Shannon Studstill admitted that Sony seriously considered putting the God of War series on hold following the lackluster God of War: Ascension.
āA lot of people throughout the organization wanted [God of War] to sleep and rest,ā he said. āEven the first pitches I gave, there was that, āYouāve really got to convince me that we should do another one.'ā
āWhat became apparent to me was that we were watching this franchise wane a bit,ā the Sony Santa Monica boss put it lightly. āIt was getting old. The storyline with Kratos being the hardcore badassāI think people were starting to say, āWhatās next?ā I felt like, in order to reinvent, we really needed to turn a lot of things around.ā
Barlog believes that the God of War franchise should grow in size so that it can become as popular as Assassinās Creed and Uncharted. And of course, the upcoming God of War on PS4 plays a pivotal role in that transformation. Hopefully, the expansion to different mythological worlds will allow enough creative freedom to come up with new ideas and mechanics instead of simply adding a fresh coat of paint on the same old gameplay.
God of War is set for release on the PlayStation 4 sometime in 2018.
