Secret World was an innovative, if rather underappreciated and somewhat underwhelming MMO when it was originally released, but its mechanics and setting were loved enough that Funcom is looking to reboot it. To make the game more exciting and to increase its potential audience, Funcom is overhauling the combat system.
Coming as part of the rereleased Secret World Legends, the new combat system joins improved visuals, an overhauled progression system and a new questing system with tweaked pacing. Although Secret World's movement orientated combat was always a little different from most MMOs, the new version strips back tabbed targeting and adds a new reticule system, adding more skill to the combat in the game than ever before.
You'll still be able to dodge and move at high speed, keeping combat fast, but now aiming will be down to you too. This gives the game more of a third person shooter or action RPG feel, rather than a slightly different MMO experience.
Players will have complete control of the camera, letting them view the battle from any angle. There is also now different ammunition for the different weapons, active and passive abilities to play with and a temperature-based magic system where you need to stay within a certain threshold to deal maximum damage.
All of this and more was shown off in the new trailer for the game, which should only go to build its hype for the new launch on June 26 this year.
