Wii in October - Bush Gets DS Lite

Analysts report that the Wii may launch as early as late September while Nintendo has offered President Bush a DS Lite and a copy of Brain Age as a birthday present and has included a note which is hilarious by its audacity.

Analysts have reported that Nintendo has already begun production of the final retail units of its Wii console and have compared that information with the fact that Sony has yet to start retail production on PS3 consoles and Microsoft only started production 69 days before launch. Given that the PS3 will launch November 17, we can assume that Nintendo is planning an earlier release. According to analysts the most likely launch timeframe for the Wii is October with late September another, less likely, possibility. An early fall U.S. launch is not new to Nintendo as the NES launched October 18, 1985 and N64 was released September 29, 1996. In fact, only GameCube was launched in November and we all know how that worked out for the company.

Nintendo's DS Lite, which is a guaranteed U.S. success, was sent as a birthday gift to President Bush along with a copy of Brain Age. The full letter accompanying the gift was quite entertaining and reads:

Happy Birthday! Don't worry, turning 60 is an exciting milestone. As you know, you've joined millions of other baby boomers in an invigorating new decade of your life. And, like many boomers, you may be looking for ways to keep your mind sharp. That's where we come in.

Brain Age also comes with more than 100 sudoku puzzles - these could make your next long flight on Air Force One a bit more fun! (Perhaps copies of Brain Age for journalists joining you on your next flight would be a nice distraction!)
Have fun exploring Brain Age with your Nintendo DS Lite and be sure to let us know your brain age!

This is one of those brilliant PR moments and Nintendo seems to be having quite a few of them lately. It seems that the failure of the GameCube has alerted awoken the Japanese gaming giant.
