Trent Reznor has spoken on the official NIN website about Doom 3, the reasons why his work did not make it into the game and on his relationship with John Carmack.
According to Trent Reznor, the initial plans for Doom 3 called for no musical soundtrack as such, but a musical, immersive environment. A theme tune to accompany the game intro was planned but according to Mr. Reznor, ...time and money and bad management... did not let the collaboration work out.

The initial plans for the involvement of the NIN lead singer called for total control over the game's audio, as an overall sound producer, ...from foley and voice over to ambient world noise.. Work on the audio involved working directly in the game editor and with the programmers. Trent Reznor describes his work, during that time, at iD as ...thinking in a different way... The overall effort focused on bringing the environment to musical life by ..."tuning" various environmental sources so they 'd cohesively interact with one another in a "musical" way. Imagine your footsteps, as part of an orchestra which may also include a nearby dripping ceiling and the creaking of a door.

The NIN front man still claims to be eagerly awaiting Doom 3 and to be looking forward to trying out the powerful new engine. You can find a link to the full Trent Reznor interview by following the download tab above.

So tweaker did the music to D3 or just the intro?? All it says is why NIN doesnt want to do it.Dident do it or failed to do it.. so vague. I'd post to link to tweakers d3 intro music but it's been replaced with stuff.

Who knows? We may still get to hear the nin version if they decide to edit doom3 and add their music. I guess only time will tell. One thing is certain though, if trent reznor is excited about playing this game than it definately will be something to see.

old TooL is good, nin is a standby, rammstein can be enjoyable, cradle of filth/hardcore i dont think would fit the game, any of the above as BANDS wouldnt fit the game at all, trent (hahaha lead singer) was doing all the sound as mentioned. it wouldnt matter if you love nin or not, it would be nothing like any of the groups music. so it really doesnt matter, and in the end it wasnt done, so oh well. (old news anyway)

dear god, I think Trent Reznor would of done a good job and as far as NIN Vs. Tool Vs. Rammstein, im more of a rammstein fan than aything else(sehnsucht*LONGING* anyone?) and tool would fall in third, but i think that they would have made the best music for the game, their music would have a good ambience effect more than a NIN and Stein(face it Rammstein even Klavier is a little to fast paced for an immersive game, NIN has many beats in thier music that would distract from the game, Tools musical ambience would add the best effect to the on screen immersion), and yes Tool would make the best music because it compliments the game the best, (even though NIN is more menacing in thier music) the music of NIN and Rammstein would take too much focus off the core of the game, Tool would just compliment it, and about this being Co-Op bah, take it or leave it, the reason doom is co op on XBOX is to go to a friends house and play it and try to freak eachother out, its a game that centers around immersion *LAST PERSON ALIVE* it just wouldnt make much sense, a cyber Demon(god willing...) wouldnt be much challenge to two people at once, but against one its devestating and scary as hell with graphics like these

I would like to hear a really dark and nasty D&B soundtrack to Doom3, if you listen to some of the Dom&Roland tracks and then think Doom3 the industrial sound and hefty bass matches pretty well with the look and feel of the fights and scenery of Doom3

after reading what trent had in mind with the music that would be composed of the ambiant sound like your foot step i know it would have been awesome but he says time and money didnt make it happen.i belive that such a vision can only have one leader and trent wasnt the leader carmak was and he wasnt the one with the vision.so the concept was doomed and they went back to good ol music that dont do anything new. IM a tool fan and an NIN fan, and hell ive even seen tool in concert, but they aint better, trent reznot not doing this soundtrack is a very big letdown for me.

Finally...I managed to get my version of the game and played it completely.As a serious gamer who wants to be 1st in quakecon I had heard that ID has announced for quakecon players that there will be some copies of the game availablke in some shops even sooner than august 3rd. I spent more than $100 to search every market in LA for the game and finally some retailer gave up against my insist and sold me his only copy.Here's my opinion about this title:PROS:1.Amazing graphics!Very good lighting effects and nice indoor environments.2.Nice sound system.music and sounds both.3.Some scary moemnts to make you a little excited(Not as scary as undying and the suffering).CONS:1.Relatively short single player mode and outdated multiplayer system.The single player took me 10.5 hours to complete and there's nothing really innovative about multiplayer.Believe me u won't play Doom3 more than a week.2.Unbelievably terrible performance.I have a Nvidia FX6800-1GB DDR RAM-AMD Athlon Barton 2500+ and the game is played with the framerate of 20 most of the times even with medium settings.MY pc runs far cry-painkiller-UT2004 so SMOOOOOTH but this shit is killing me.3.bugful like hell.my pc was hanging every 1 hour and I had 10-20 restarts before finishing it.4.Every save and load takes more than 20 seconds and it sucks badly!5.The ID and Activision logo in the beginning takes 20-25 seconds to disappear and u can't bypass them!God I can't even tolerate "EA GAMES CHALLENGE EVERYTHING" let alone to this.CONCLUSION:As a fan of the fps genre who has been waiting 4 years,I absoluely didn't expect the game to be like this.Believe me if far cry gets a rating of 10 in gaming industry doom3 wouldn't even get 5.Doom3 belonged to year 2002 not 2004.God I expected them to work hard on their game to make it look nice in 2004 but it looks like they have been continuously masturbating from year 2002 to 2004!I don't know even if I want to participate in DOOM3 challenge in qua

i really cant see how you could have played it already although you do sound convincing. u cant be talking abot the alpha cus that takes 10 minutes to complete and not 10 hours.prove you have it and post some screenshots not seen anywhere on the web, prehaps a screen from multiplayer with your name set to megagames or something.also as you can see here [url removed] should be getting much better framerates than what you say, especially as you have the perfect graphics card to play this game.anyway give us some screenshots and we will believe you.

God!How the hell do u think I've got the alpha version?I'm a professional gamer.I've won multiple multiplayer rewards before u come out from your father's back and now you say I can't recognize the alpha from the retail version?I've got the retail version and anyone of u can have it if u really want it.Just get into some shops and say I'm a quakecon participant and I wanna have the game as soon as possible and try this multiple times with multiple retailer shops.Believe me I searched for the game for 6-7 hours and I heard 100 "NO"s before I finally succeeded.I don't think u will remain so much fanatic when u play the game yourself.Also someone here said that benchmarks show better results than I've got.I know that but the performance in different chapters of the game greatly varies.I played the first level with framerate more than 70-80 and I only had two crashes to worry about.But second level was a nightmare even when I decreased the details.Believe me 60% of the game is being played with terrible framerates even in best computers.
