Amidst rumors of PlayStation 3 games retailing for between USD 75-85, the Sony Style website has begun taking pre-orders for PS3 games that cost a measly USD 59.99.

Although the price point puts PS3 games on the same category as X360 games, this is good news for fans of the Japanese consumer electronics giant as rumors, for a year now, had hinted at a higher price. The games listed at USD 59.99 include Call of Duty 3 so we are certain they are premium titles. There have been suggestions that the USD 59.99 price may be a pre-order only offer but there is no mention of such an offer on the website so it is unlikely to be the case.

Sony is in desperate need of some respite from the onslaught of critical press it has been receiving lately. The European launch delay, the reduced units available for launch and the Japan only price cut have created a hostile atmosphere for the company in the U.S. and this news might just help calm things down for Sony.

Measly? 59.99 is not frigging measly! Sony has gotten their prices all wrong, the console is supposed to be affordable so they make money on the games sold but Sony has both expensive so the consumers are getting butt raped (especially the parents of bratty kids). If they wanted to make up for the outrageous price of the console they should've made the games $50 so you'd save money in the long run, that would be a definite draw for the system.

Might just be the price range in Japan, since they have the highest entertainment costs in the world.I think the reduced Japan cost is because they will stand to make more on the more expensive software that they have been conditioned(are willing) to pay for. Where as the US market can justify spending a bit more for the system, but will not pay more for software.

OMFG, ive just read that stuff on GT HD, and i cant belive it!! your gonna have to PAY for additional content? what happened to unlocking the content through skill?? AND damage is finally a feature, although that will have to be downloaded too!! lmao. i bet a few games are gonna have bulls**t like this. this s**t has gotta be stopped!!

mashat 1:49 26/9/2006Well racing games naturally suck and the details of GT HD aren't 100% but you could infact have the cars and tracks you want for a much cheaper price since they won't eb selling the disc for anyhting near normal price for a game so it could in fact be aot cheaper.... but it IS a racing game so it does suck :P

why do racing games suck? i thought burnout was one of the best racing titles of all time! why cause it was arcadey and FAST! thats like sayin all RPG's suck, or puzzle games suck, or fighting games god damn it. fact is there are examples in most genres of good and bad games.

Sony will burn you so bad, like there batterys did to all those laptops. 360 left out the HD because it wasnt ready. Sony included BluRay when it wasnt ready. So you had to wait 8 months more for it. Oh and did they tell you there is 500,000 FOR THE ENTIRe WORLD? Get in line now.

Sony would never lie to us or sell substandard equiptment.I bet it will be the first console with pop-up ads on its online play tho. Im glad it looks like a George Forman Grill. 1/10 more gaming fun than 360 but 1/2 the fat. It will be the 1337 console and pwn the Wii so hard.

Im going to put mine in my front window. Cuz after I pay $600 for it, i wont be able to afford any games. Not that there will be any actual launch titles worth buying for it. Ill have to wait tell spring of 2008, by then the sonic game will be out for it.

360 did not leave us without HD because it was not ready. It simply is not neccesary. Even if a game is 20GB 4DVDs are enough. I played plenty of games on 4-5 CDs thats for sure. So question is - why make customers pay for something that is not needed while they can get a newer technology of their choise at any time WHILE sonys Blueray will always be the ALPHA, never updated. Only Read function, DRM infected, what else

my local gamestop guy tells me that standard games will be $60 USD and collector boxes and specialty games will be $100 USD. and honestly who gives a crap about consoles. pfft as far as the hd/b-ray vs standard dvd. i do beleive that both of the hd standards read faster than dvd so in that sense they are extremely helpfull and yank at having to switch disks to continue anyone to lazy to walk 10 feet, halfway through a game needs to shoot themselves.

Ima look so cool playing the ps3. flippin that controller around like a kid with ADD playing rad racer on the NES for the first time. I will slap my mom so hard if she doesnt get me one for christmas, cuz we are rich and dont mind spending $3000 for the low end ps3 on ebay. I hate the 360 its not expencive enuf.
