Gothic 1 Remake Players Get a Long List of Fixes in Patch 1.0.4

Game: Gothic 1 Remake  |  Developer: Alkimia Interactive  |  Publisher: THQ Nordic  |  Platforms: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S  |  Patch Version: 1.0.4  |  Release Date: August 2, 2026 (PC), consoles to follow

Alkimia Interactive released Patch 1.0.4 for Gothic 1 Remake on August 2. The update fixes a long-standing crossbow reload bug. It also rebalances armor and adds new loot across the map.

This is the fourth major patch since the game’s June 5 launch. Alkimia shows no sign of slowing down its post-launch support.

The Crossbow Fix Players Have Been Waiting For

Many ranged players use a favorite combat trick. First, they fire a crossbow bolt. Then they quickly switch to a faster bow to finish the fight during the crossbow’s long reload.

Previously, this trick had a flaw. Players could get stuck in the reload animation mid-swap. The game sometimes even consumed a bolt that never actually fired.

Alkimia’s own Steam patch notes confirm the fix. Switching weapons after firing a crossbow no longer skips the reload animation or wastes a bolt. It’s a small technical fix, but it directly improves one of the game’s most popular combat loops.

Armor and Loot Rebalancing

This patch also changes how armor and loot work. Caster robes for Fire, Water, and Dark Arts now block more physical damage. In exchange, they resist less elemental damage.

These robes also grant more maximum mana. That makes them a stronger pick for spellcasters willing to accept the trade-off.

  • Shadow and Bandit armor: Early upgrades now cost less, top-tier upgrades cost more, and Alkimia slightly reduced high-tier protection values
  • Guard, Mercenary, and Templar armor: Upgrades cost more overall, especially at higher tiers
  • New loot placements: Fresh items now appear in the Shipwreck, the Fog Tower, the Old Citadel Tower, and several previously empty underwater areas
  • Swapped rewards: The Old Mine’s Extract of Life and Blood Sword have traded positions, and several weapon drops now differ entirely

Alkimia also increased the cooking material stock at several traders. Dexter, Silas, and Mordrag all carry more ingredients now. This gives players steadier access to crafting supplies.

Quest and Technical Fixes Across Every Chapter

Patch 1.0.4 touches quest logic in nearly every chapter. Chapter 1 no longer blocks giving or selling Snipes’ key to Aaron after a theft. Grim’s pathing during the “Lost Amulet” quest also guides players correctly now.

Chapter 2 fixes the “Ring for Fingers” quest, so it now persists after moving into Chapter 3. Thorus also appears as a teacher from the very beginning, instead of partway through.

Chapter 5 gets the most attention. Alkimia fixed Stone’s imprisonment questline, his blacksmith recipes, and his dialogue in “Forged Rivalries.” His prison cell door now closes properly, too.

On the technical side, the full patch notes list fixes for audio bugs and several crash triggers. The patch also fixes an XP bug: players previously earned no XP for finishing off downed enemies with ranged attacks. Alkimia refined facial animations for several characters as well.

The console version hasn’t gone live yet. Alkimia says it will follow “a bit later,” without giving a firm date.

Bottom Line

Two months after launch, Alkimia still treats Gothic 1 Remake as a work in progress. This patch adds no new content. However, the sheer volume of quest fixes, loot changes, and quality-of-life tweaks shows real attention to player feedback.

Players who paused for technical reasons should find this update worth installing. So should anyone who simply wants a smoother playthrough, once the patch reaches their platform.
