Gothic 1 Remake Mage Balance Mod v0.9
Gothic 1 Remake’s mage spells are inconsistent in power, with several falling off sharply in the mid and late game while others barely justify their mana cost. The Mage Balance mod rebalances spell damage, mana costs, cast and charge times, and projectile speed at runtime without modifying any game files. Furthermore, it also fixes Chain Lightning, strengthens endgame spells like Uriziel and Death Breath, and reduces the learn point cost of magic circles. Consequently, mage builds stay competitive and rewarding to play from early game through the end.

Why You Need This Mod
This mod is useful if you find that mage builds become frustrating in the mid and late game when several spells stop keeping up with enemy health pools. It also makes the mage path more viable on harder difficulties by ensuring crowd control spells like Ice Block and Fist of Wind work reliably. Additionally, the reduced circle LP costs ease the steep early investment without trivializing the final circle as a goal.
How to Get Started
- Download the mod archive and extract it to your PC.
- Install UE4SS experimental-latest if you have not already. Extract into:
...\Gothic 1 Remake\G1R\Binaries\Win64\
so that
dwmapi.dllsits next toG1R-Win64-Shipping.exeand aWin64\ue4ss\folder is created. - Copy the G1R_MageBalance folder into:
...\Win64\ue4ss\Mods\
If you are using an older UE4SS build, use
...\Win64\Mods\instead, matching wherever your other mods are installed. - The included
enabled.txtactivates the mod automatically. Nomods.txtedit is needed. - Launch the game. All spell changes apply at runtime.
- To adjust individual spells, open
Scripts\config.lua, edit the values for the spells you want, save, and restart the game. - To uninstall, delete the G1R_MageBalance folder from the Mods directory.
Good to Know
- Uriziel, Destroy Undead, and Fist of Wind have been written but not fully cast-tested by the author. Feedback from players who own those runes is welcome.
- Destroy Undead’s effective damage is still reduced by undead resistance, as expected.
