Sony Claims It Will Stop PS3 Hacking By A Firmware Update

The hacking community - as well as us at MegaGames - believes that the revelation of Playstation 3's signing keys is an unrecoverable blow to the console's security, but Sony seems confident that this isn't the case.

"We are aware of this, and are currently looking into it," was Sony's late, first and only response till now. "We will fix the issues through network updates, but because this is a security issue, we are not able to provide you with any more details."

After fail0verflow revealed their technique, GeoHot used it to find out and publish the PS3's root key and other hacking groups managed to use it to uncover the Blu-Ray and PSP root keys hidden inside the PS3.

Fail0verflow member pytey still believes that "the complete console is compromised - there is no way back. The only way to fix this is to issue new hardware. Sony will have to accept this."
