The Guild 2: Renaissance

The Guild 2: Renaissance

The Guild II: Renaissance is developed by Runeforge Game Studio and published by THQ Nordic. It released on July 28, 2010, for Windows via Steam, as a stand-alone expansion to 2006’s The Guild II. Set in a transforming 14th-century Europe, players build a dynasty from nothing, choosing a trade, a title, and a legacy that outlasts a single lifetime.

About the Game

The Guild II: Renaissance drops players into a living medieval economy built on supply and demand rather than scripted missions. After creating a founding character, players pick one of four specializations, Patron, Craftsman, Scholar, or Rogue, each unlocking its own professions, buildings, and paths to influence. Success might come from running a thriving trade business, climbing the political ranks of the nobility, mastering a craft, or working the criminal underworld.

What separates Renaissance from the base game is its generational structure. Characters age, marry, and eventually die, passing wealth and status down to their children, so long-term planning matters as much as any single deal or duel. Four game modes, Extinction, Dynasty, Mission, and Time Limit, each frame that generational play differently, while new scenarios set in Transylvania, the Rhineland, and the Alps add fresh maps to build an empire across.

Key Features

  • Four Character Specializations: Choose between Patron, Craftsman, Scholar, and Rogue, each granting distinct professions, buildings, and paths to power.
  • Generational Dynasty Play: Characters age and pass their titles, wealth, and businesses to their children, turning every decision into a multi-generational investment.
  • 8 New Renaissance-Era Professions: Mercenary, gravedigger, stonemason, juggler, innkeeper, banker, miller, and fruit grower expand the original game’s economy.
  • Supply-and-Demand Economy: Prices and opportunities shift based on a simulated economy, rewarding players who read the market rather than following a fixed path.
