Blizzard Is Putting The Original Diablo Into Diablo 3

When Diablo 3 was released in May 2012, it was met by harsh criticism for not remaining faithful to its predecessors' hardcore roots. This might finally change now as Blizzard is celebrating the franchise's 2th anniversary by bringing the original Diablo into Diablo 3.

The announcement was made by chief development officer Frank Pearce during BlizzCon 2016. Pearce revealed that Diablo 3 will soon be able to travel back to the damned cathedral and work their way downward through 16 levels of monsters, including the original's four main bosses.

Blizzard wants this version to remain as faithful to the original as possible, they actually created a special graphics filter to "make everything pixelated and grainy." Character movement will also be restricted to eight directions only as the original Diablo "didn't have 360 degrees of movement; we had 8 degrees and we liked it!"

The anniversary patch - which includes old school Diablo - will hit public beta next week. Once it is released, you'll be able to play it using your existing characters; However, Pearce believes that it is best experienced with a brand new one.
