Cloud Imperium: there is no Star Citizen delay

This week the news broke that Star Citizen's single player mode, Squadron 42, would be delayed until well into next year, despite all plans originally pointing to a 2016 debut. However, it turns out that this may have been a mis-translation from those watching the original video. While it seemed like Chris Roberts said there was a delay, in fact it was merely the interviewer claiming that Chris Roberts said it.

To back that up, Cloud Imperium Games, the developer of Star Citizen, has released a statement saying that there is no plan to delay the release of Squadron 42 at all and that it would still arrive before the end of the year.

"It appears something may have been lost in the translation," a rep said to PCGamer. "Chris spoke to multiple reporters at Gamescom who asked about the status of Squadron 42. We have been feature locked for a while and things are coming along nicely. In every case he told them that we are hard at work on the game and are focused on making it great but no official launch dates were discussed."

We are told that a report on when Squadron 42 will release is set to arrive in October, so it may be that the game isn't quite ready for prime time just yet, but it must be coming along nicely if Cloud Imperium was happy to deny that the game would show up in 2017.

As the biggest crowd funded game ever made, Star Citizen has a lot riding on it. If it flops, people may never support a game like it again. Likewise if it takes too long to arrive, it will be nowhere near as impressive as it might have been.

Do you think it can live up to the hype?
