Divinity: Original Sin developer, Larian, is making Baldur's Gate III

A sequel to one of the most beloved games in one of the most beloved game series, Baldur's Gate 2, is being developed by the creator of recent RPG hit, Divinity: Original Sin, and its sequel. Belgium-based Larian Studios has been developing RPGs since the 90s, almost exclusively within the realm of its own Divinity universe, however. Baldur's Gate 3 represents a step into an entirely new universe, but one Larian seems well equipped to do justice to.

The new teaser trailer is not only gorgeous to look at, but gives a hint at what we can expect to be major antagonists in the game: Lovecraftian squid-like monsters called Illithids. They are attempting to corrupt everything in the Forgotten Realms, and it will be up to players to stop it.

"Baldur’s Gate III will push the boundaries of the RPG genre and offer a rich narrative with unparalleled player freedom, high-stakes decisions, unique companion characters and memorable combat," Larian said in a statement. "It is Larian Studios’ biggest production ever and will be playable together with friends or as a single-player adventure."

Expect to learn more about the game at E3 next week.
