John Romero has a new PC FPS coming soon

John Romero is one of those classic names in the PC gaming space. He's had his hand in some of the most classic first person titles ever created, from Doom, to Wolfenstein 3D, to the Quake series. So when he hints that he might be working on a new first person shooter, that's rather big news.

Especially so, since it sounds like it's for the PC.

We had our first suggestion that this was happening back in January this year, when the long-time developer released a level for Doom, something he hasn't done in years. However it's something he's done several times in the past, when beginning work on a new project.

The reference to a team called HOXAR is apparently VR related, with hints of roomscale applications and a realistic setting. Other than that we don't have a lot of info, but it's interesting to see Romero raise his head and confirm something is in the works.

If he truly is working on a new game though, that's big news. The last one he headed was the infamous dud, Daikatana, which after years of delays and problems, was released to a luke warm reception at best.

What do you think of John Romero at this point? Does he still have it in him to innovate in an industry that has moved on a long way since his glory days?
