"When we talked about this a couple of years ago it was like 'f**k, why didn't anyone do this before?!' It seemed really obvious," Kane and Lynch lead designer Kim Krogh said.

"I mean, multiplayer's been around for 15 years or so and some deathmatch and capture the flag games are really tight and have evolved over 10 years like Team Fortress 2 - that's been in development for nine years. Of course they have a really nice game there but we couldn't really figure out why the f**k everybody makes deathmatch," Kim added.

In the new multiplayer mode, called "Fragile Alliance", the player will be part of a bank heist. The players' squad will try to grab as much loot as possible, taking out cops and other security measures all the while. But there is a catch: players can kill other squad members to steal their loot, increasing the killer's loot/score. When a player kills another squad member, the whole squad is notified, and it is unlikely they would take it kindly. Dead player will be reincarnated as police officer, giving them one more shot at sweat vengeance.

Unfortunately, you won't be able to play Fragile Alliance online. The new mode is available only through offline split-screen. "It's a matter of focus, choosing what you want to deliver at what time," game director Jens Peter Kurup explained. "We looked at it and decided it was too much of a risk to change our code to be very very good at that, and we're not going to be very very good at other elements."
