With only around seven million consoles world wide, far less than the other two big hardware makers, Nintendo's Wii U system has been a bit of a flop, but its software library has been anything but. Coming May this year though, Splatoon is set to offer a third person shooter experience on the WIi U that has got lots of people talking.
It may not be likely to sell millions of Wii Us, but its gameplay and new capture-territory mechanics have some wondering whether it might carry it over onto other platforms, or could at least inspire new shooter mechanics for the future.
Some of them are showcased in the latest gameplay video shown off by NTowerTV:
Much like games like Titanfall, part of Splatoon's appeal is its new method of navigating a map. However, instead of wall running and double jumping, Splatoon lets you move through the ground in areas where you've sprayed paint. This opens up some interesting tactics and ideas for gameplay.
With that movement in place too, you have a great mechanic for bringing teams together to battle it out, while still maintaining enough of a respawn timer that returning to gameplay isn't instantaneous and kills meaningless.
Games altogether are pretty fast and frantic, with various different weapon systems in place to help you spread the paint and splat your enemies.
Splatoon launches this May exclusively on the Wii U.
