ATI New Board With 32 Pipelines

The latest information released from Canada regarding ATIs monstrous R520 board, also known as Fudo, mentions the magic 'pipeline' word, a key element of the battle for graphical supremacy last year. Many might remember how the number 16 seemed to be the holy grail of both manufacturers and how stunned we all were that the companies involved could produce such monstrous boards carrying so many transistors and not be responsible for the melting of the polar ice caps.

Well this time ATI claims that its new range of boards will carry in excess of 300 million transistors meaning that, at least in theory, it will be able to feature 32 pipelines. It's time for gamer jaws to drop again as this will mean that the boards will feature twice as many pipelines as their predecessors. The current line of thinking at ATI is to have all boards with 32 pipelines but to restrict the first few versions to 24 functioning ones and to gradually introduce the full 32 enabled versions when market conditions and competitor products demand them.

ATI is rather keen to begin making its presence felt on the Top 20 3DMark hall of fame, as the recent failed attempt in Texas clearly demonstrated. The R520 could be the card to bring that success to ATI since it should be capable of performing at least twice as fast as the X850 meaning it should outperform even current SLI setups.

If ATI also manages to introduce its dual-GPU configuration this summer as expected, the resulting performance should run away with the 3DMark crown. I will leave you with the thought of two 32 pixel pipeline R520s running in tandem a game of your choice, how's that for starters?

NOTE :

The picture card is the Crucial RADEON X850XT 256MB PCI Express card and not the R520.

"at least nvidias inferior technology is available and not just part of rumors"Definition of rumor: "A piece of unverified information of uncertain origin usually spread by word of mouth"And seeing that its a real thing and its been real for a while now (and IS available)...ur pretty retarded"Tell me how end-users can use ati multi gpu plz sli is available for end users since december

ATI New Board With 32 Pipelines

"Tell me how end-users can use ati multi gpu plz sli is available for end users since december"The only end users using ATI's Multi GPU setup are is the US Army. When the R520 is released in late May, consumers will have access to it. SLI has been out first. First however, does not translate to better. Personally i like the idea of using 2 differnet cards. With SLI, YOU MUST US IDENTICAL CARDS WITH THE SAME BIOS. And those cards MUST be from the same manufacturer or you will see no performance gains. To many "if's"

To many "if's""Yeah, sure, and the white house and pentagon are using 10 r720 right now. as for the manufacturer, that is not entirely true, eg if you have 2 6800ultra, say one msi and one asus, you need to flash one with the others bios and sli will work (done it myself with 2 6800 gt's). the idea of 2 different cards in use is great, but i'm afraid the drivers will be just as bad as current sli drivers. no one knows 'bout that now, but it will most likely be very difficult to write drivers supporting two different cards. sli useres may be limited to 2 identical cards, but at least it is available and the drivers are somewhat working, not perfectly, but working. this may change in near future, but i'm just stating the status quo.

ATI New Board With 32 Pipelines

"Listen bitches, the 6800ultra is old technology now, the R520 launch is around the corner. The R520 will offer new shit. If you are currently running SLI than you're an idiot, one R520 is more powerful. Now you have to get rid of two cards if you want to upgrade."there is absolutely no proof for that. wait for the first benchmarks and u will see whether it is that great or not. if it is, come here and spam each result here, but if not you will look like a f***ing idiot. remember the time when r300 came out? at that moment nvidia launched first detailed information about nv30's final copnfiguration. that is the same version that got out to end users. theoretically, nv30 would have raped the r300 (which it actually did in some games), but there u see performance isn't everything. remember the heat produced by nv30? so what do u expect from a 300mio+ transistor chip? but AJAX, you have proved being a retarded idiot several times in this thread, hope ati pays you well for that kind of telling lies/fan biased comments. why don't you speak in favour of intel next time, they have an even higher market share than ati, so they make the best graphics cards. btw have you ever experienced the power of one geforce 6800 ultra which was properly set up? most unlikely it seems. i have used both ati x800xl and geforce 6800gt and the iq was nearly identical on both cards, while performance and stability was slightly better on the 6800gt. i gave ati a chance, they didn't take it, what else can i do?

ATI New Board With 32 Pipelines

SLI doesn't mean shit only dumb arse's go for that kinda tech.sucks to be dumb arse rich kid with SLI 6800ultra's lolwtf is this writer onATI doesn't have to catch up to shit,850xt creams on a 6800u cept for doom3 wow big deal no one plays that anymore lol even tho it plays on a 850xt on max detail with no lag.some people are suckers

"Yeah, sure, and the white house and pentagon are using 10 r720 right now."[url removed] last link will move you to a company: Evans & Sutherland. They make simulators for the US army. And those similators use ATI graphic chipsets in Multi-GPU formnat. More then 35 at a time. So considering that the Pentagon FINANCES THE US ARMY. Your sarcastic point is moronic.Your arugement on stability for the 6800gt vs. the XL800 is truely up for debate. Forceware drivers for the past year have been very unstable at times. When Nvidia releases updates for drivers it's a 4-5 month process. If you have issues with said drivers, you're screwed for that period until they release new ones. I am assuming with your last statement that you gave ATI a chance when Nvidia released the FX chipset? ;)

ATI New Board With 32 Pipelines

good ati news thankyou megagames.well we all knew this was gonna happen lol only if the xbox 2 or what ever its called could have it that would hurt sony but mwahhh they dont so screw you microsoft.go ati for being great quality and price :cough: :cough:i can say this if either company drops there prices significantly then they will get the market share for a long time.e.g. say ati drop all there cards except for the ones below $150 down by $100-$400 that will hurt all competition though i wish it would happen....

Anonymousat 6:33 18/4/2005, your statement about the specs on the NV30 and that it should have raped the r300. And you claim it did in some games....please tell us which ones. Never did. It beat out the 9700pro in some OpenGl games, and lost out in all the others. I clearly remember. Raping means total dominace. The 9700pro RAPED the 4200-4600 in all games. The 5800 never came close to that for the 9700pro. SHOW US ONE GAME WHERE THE NV30 DOUBLE SCORES AGAINST THE 9700PRO OR CLOSE TO IT. That's what you call "raping"Do you remember that Nvidia held off release of the 5800Ultra(NV30) until almost May of that year! They also never allowed review sites to dissect the card. Just ask Techreport.com...Hardocp.com...The Inquirer.net...Extremetech.com...Nvidia lied about the hardware specs of the NV30 from the get go when they found out the hardware details of the 9700pro."On Paper", the NV30 would have beating the 9700pro...IF those specs were true. They were not. First off, Nvidia lied that it was a true 8 pipeline card like the 9700pro right up until the release of the 5900. It was not. It was a 4X2 pipeline card. It rendered in 8 pipelines SOMETIMES. And the biggest lie of all time that kiled it's performance....the memory interface. Nvidia used the same macarhitecture for the 5800 as the geforce4! They used the same memory interface of 128bit. The 9700pro used 256. If Nvidia did indeed tell the truth about those specs, "ON PAPER" The Nv30 would have looked like a dud that it was proven to be. Intial 3dmarks and AquaMarks scores raised eyebrows across the hardware community as to why a 8 pipeline card with a 256 memory interface was running the tets poorly compared to a card(9700pro) with the same specs but lower clock speeds. The very reason Nvidia held off the NV30 as long as possible to release the the 256bit memory interface 5900.The truth finally hit that the 5800 was nothing what Nvidia claimed it would be. Theorectically as you claim, the NV30 should

ATI New Board With 32 Pipelines

...continue...Theorectically as you claim, the NV30 should have beaten the 9700pro only if Nvidia did not B.S. and oush the card out. At that time Nvidia was caught with their pants down. They never expected ATI to release a card like the 9700pro. Even though ATI said they would and when. The Inquirer mentions this.

ATI New Board With 32 Pipelines

The big problem is that there are no games scheduled for release that will require this ammount of firepower in the graphx card. Every developer ( Yeah, there are still some that EA hasn't bought ) will try to make their games playable on p90s. Just look at WoW and such. Ok, EQ 2 needs a big machine to run smoothly on highest settings, but you don't need friggin 32 pipelines! This would only be useful for people sitting and comparing their 3dmark scores.

"I am assuming with your last statement that you gave ATI a chance when Nvidia released the FX chipset? ;)"i gave ati 3 chances, and in my case it took one while nv took the other two. my first "real" graphics card was a geforce 4 ti 4600, but i had also tried the 8500, but the 4600 won. when the fx came out i was quite satisfied with the 4600 and waited a bit (my luck), but later i got a 5900, but replaced it soon with a 9800 pro. 4 months ago however it kinda died and my rma request was denied, so i tried nv again (6800). however the fan had some issues and i got my money back, so i switched to pci-e and tried both x800xl and 6800gt, and stuck with the gt. good point btw.

ATI New Board With 32 Pipelines

As far as the 6800GT, you cannot go wrong. That is in my opinon the best Nvidia card out. Period. For the price and performance...you can't beat it. The XL800 is the best ATI card out. Same applies as above. If you overclock the 6800gt and the xl800, you get top teir performance for a fraction of the cost..That's sweet.

ATI New Board With 32 Pipelines

1) how would they know the g70 is better? threy dont even have any details on it2) how can it just tape out and be released around the same time? Ati taped out months ago3)i think this is a HUGE rumor or lie. There is simply no way the company can have absolutely no details about it, suddenly tape out and be released around something being prodcued so long now and be released at around same time, and be better. Simply no way.

'Anonymousat 9:46 31/3/2005I can still afford, and WILL buy SLI, I bet that just burns you ATidiot's asses that you can't convert me! 'and what can you play on your pc that i cant play on my ati at full res and aa with 70+fps on any game?

ATI New Board With 32 Pipelines

"I can still afford, and WILL buy SLI, I bet that just burns you ATidiot's asses that you can't convert me!"actually, it doesnt bother me at all, all it lets me know is theres someone out there that IS willing to throw away money for no reason ;)

ATI New Board With 32 Pipelines

No one nows what the R520 well be like anyways. So Nvidia waiting for details before they release the G70 would be pointless. The specs for the R520 are still rumors and not verified. And the sources claiming that the G70 is better, is..you guessed it. Nvidia themselves. Of course they will say that. Read the article closely. "Pro Nvidia sources" Ati would make a similar claim. Do you actually think as a company, you will say to consumers, "Hey, our product is not as good or fast as our competitor" Nope. You say you have the best product since slice bread. Same way Nvidia claimed of the NV30 vs. the 9700pro.

ATI New Board With 32 Pipelines

Yeah man the R520 will be the most powerful most efficient core to date. ATI really knows how to make GPU, unlike Nvidia. 32 f**king pipeline unbelieveable. ATI will rules with their MVP and R520 for a long time. Nvidia doesn't have the knowledge to produce such a card. Nvidia was stupid to place their hopes on SLI to beat ATI. This is the reason why ATI in on the #1 spot. Nvidia has nothing new, if they did we would hear about it. You can't hide the creation of millions of silicon chip. ATI has owned for so long now, and everytime the Nvidiots say that Nvidia will own next time, but when they are still #2. Just face the facts you Nvidiots homos the R520 is the most powerful GPU ever created 300 million transistors. I believe that this GPU will also power the XBOX2.

ATI New Board With 32 Pipelines

i for one blieve it is a huge rumor by an nvidiot to make it look like theres going to be a good competition...just way hard to believe only one site has an article about it and the only ones to know about it. Not only that, that one site is not that great of a source ;)

32 pipes? who cares. at least everyyear a significantly better card comes out mystiriously-at least it now seems so.surely 64 or 128are quite easily possible with goodcooling!2 card sli? what for? dfx had 4 in the90s.why not have a 2nd pc just for graphics.that would inspire carmack+co.oh and would make forget the edgedlines

ATI New Board With 32 Pipelines

SLI isnt even close to ATi's idea. They work completely different. And what? do u think ATi wouldve nvr came out with a multi card solution? ATi did not copy nvidia at all. Its common sence to make multi card solutions. However using 3Dc is completely copying ATi

What the fu*k ati youve done it again the power of your cards show the true power of your cards compard to the crappy geforce 6800GT i dont think G-force has nothing else to give as the core rates for games are crap they dont perfom at all...ati doesent need sli technolagy because gefore 6800GT run at core 350mhz wtf is that crap ati has the power in all the ways>>> sli to graphics cards to make the power of one 850xt how perthetic of G-ay-force 850xt core at 580mhz his model what true ati power if you want a good card that will last the time of games go ati you want be sorry as iam the ati gamer i now its power and specs compared to Gay-force ati if you her me hire me and ill get you cards in all net caf"es around the world the R-520 wtf ati rule g force cards are green and crappy perfomance G-force you lie to your customers about the perfomance of your cards now you will be like many companies and just go and die off the R-520 32 pipelines 700mhz core and more power the even two sli cards G-fore is hopeless if you want to email me ati adminstartions email me at deagnas@yahoo.com.au thanks again ati all your fans are behind you 100/00 and well always buy your cards true gamers use ATI thanks,,,yours sincerly Ati man deagnas''.
