ATI Unleashes Mainstream 9700 PRO

As expected, ATI have launched 3 new cards in order to make many of the Radeon 9700 PRO features available at better value. Launched less than three months ago the 9700 PRO was claimed to be the design that would make ATI a strong contender in the graphics market and it seems to be doing just that. This new range of products aims to capture the mainstream market and to push ATI into pure nVidia market territory.

The cards concerned are the RADEON 9500 PRO, the world's first DirectX 9.0 visual processing unit (VPU) for the performance mainstream market. In addition, ATI launched the RADEON 9500 and RADEON 9700 VPUs.

Microsoft's DirectX 9.0 is the platform for which many game developers are creating their new titles, and ATI's RADEON 9500 PRO is the only product on the market that allows performance mainstream users to access high-end DirectX 9.0 features - giving them a high-end gaming experience at a more affordable price-point. Driving DirectX 9.0 support into the performance mainstream means a larger market will have the ability to enable features programmed specifically for the DirectX 9.0 platform.

ATI's RADEON 9500 PRO sets a new standard for the performance mainstream with the introduction of DirectX 9.0 support, eight rendering pipelines, 275/550 clock speed, AGP 4X/8X compatibility and 128-bit memory architecture combined with 128MB fast DDR memory. The RADEON 9500, available exclusively through add-in-board partners, offers many of the same features with four rendering pipelines and 64MB fast DDR memory.

The third new product, RADEON 9700, will also be available through add-in-board partners. It features DirectX 9.0 support, eight rendering pipelines, AGP 4X/8X compatibility, 256-bit memory architecture, 128MB fast DDR memory, and clock speeds of 275/550.

Game developers around the world are thrilled by the RADEON 9500 PRO and the incredible features it offers to the mainstream. More importantly, users with a RADEON 9500 PRO, RADEON 9500 or RADEON 9700 card will benefit from the long-term use of DirectX 9.0, as the greatly anticipated platform will remain the most advanced on the market for a minimum of two years.

ATI's latest introductions target lower, more affordable price points, said Dean McCarron, President, Mercury Research. The RADEON 9500 PRO has made the latest in DirectX 9.0 technology accessible to the high-volume mainstream of the graphics market. ATI is now supplying products for every segment of the industry.

The RADEON 9500 PRO has a suggested retail price (SRP) of $199, after manufacturer's rebate, and will begin shipping within 30 days. RADEON 9500 has an SRP of $179 and RADEON 9700 has an SRP of $299 - both are shipping now to add-in-board partners and should be available immediately.

radeon 9700 = $299hummm.. the 9700 pro here in NYC is droping i c some place is not $349 for the pro..dosent' matter since i got mines when it first came out $399 :).. going to wait for the AIW and the next R400-R500 coming out :)ATi is going to PrE_oWnZ NvdidiotsWOOT woot O_o

ATI has finally gotten into the game and in a big way. Why buy a 4600ti when you can get a 9500pro for less or the 9700 for the same price. And this was their strategy all along. Good for consumers. Life just got a little bit harder for Nvidia which is good. It will keep them honest anf prices in check.

I figure John John just picked the best possible product out right now. No favorites. And at this moment it's the 9700pro. I am a ATI user, however, like i said if Nvidia can produce the NV30 running considerably faster then the 9700...50% increase won't make me buy it. And the price is not over $100 more. Then Nvidia has my money. If not, why would I buy it?

well ill say the same thing i usualy say, when you want a new card go out and buy the best one for what you can afford at the time with the best performance, if your budget is that of a gf4ti 4200, then decide which is best for you , the 9500 or the gf4, theres no right or wrong really it's all personal opinion and what you think is best. again if you have more money then the same thing stands for that of a 9700 and a nv30.bassicaly the price and performance has to be right, who cares about having "the best card" , it's no point if you can't afford it and it will be replaced by a better model soon :)

The 9500 and the 9500pro will be basically of the same core as the 9700, 9700pro minus the memory interface and clock speed. It will support directx9. The 9500 and the 9500pro will be faster then the 9000(which people should stay away from that card like the plague.

Guys who is going to buy A GRAPHICS CARD WHICH IS $350 DOLLARS OR FOR THE UK PERSON £300, THESE PRICES ARE WAY TO HIGH, CONSIDER THIS IN THE UK WE CAN PICK UP A SB GEFORCE TI4200 128DDRAM FOR £125 THAT TO ME IS VALUE FOR MONEY AND TRHATS WHAT IVE GOT. oh yes the new radeon card that failed AGP 3.0 (8x)on many top boards, hmmm let me think, if it cant even do what it is supposto do then y buy it. and no the nv30 wont be 25-50% faster it may not even beat it, but it will WORK and is more compatible with things such as hollywood cards and capture cards. radeon 9700 is still good but not good enough!

Gothic, it was a small amount of mother boards that did not work. And that problem was solved with a bios update. And moreover, it was not the 9700pro that was at fault. It was the select few mother boards. Check your facts before you post a response. And funny thing that all the reviews said the same thing about the 9700pro. That it operated perfectly. "Many top boards..." Tell me which ones??? "Many top boards.." lol.

9700 Pro works great. Not a problem with it unless you have a bad 648 based mobo, but that is only on early revision for mobos on of before september and that come from MSI. 9700 costs less and can go to 9700 Pro levels. How did they screw up the card again?

Hey Guy's i have test both of them Geforce 4 Ti4200 (160$) and ATI 9700 (250$) and they are same trst me u can test them by play Doom IIIin Geforce 4 Ti4200 u can get 30ftp in 1024*768 by 32 color and u can get ATI 9700 31ftp in 1024*768 by 32 color so no need to west ur time Buy Geforce 4 Ti4200 for (160$) Only Enjoy

I got 9700 pro, it beats all my friends G force 4's and ive had no problems with the 8x AGP, on seval MOBO's. I like GFORCE cards and i wasnt going to get my 9700 un till i checked out its stats... Ive had no problems with games etc so i advise if u have the cash to splash, then get one. If ur a cheap ass- then get a G FORCE MX POS
