Dual-Core Duel Heats-Up

Intel showed off three new dual-core microprocessors during the Intel Development Forum, promising more power for lower consumption.

Intel CEO and President Paul S. Otellini described his company's approach as performance per watt. Otellini said the new chips will not be available before Q3, 2006 and described the new products as combining the strength of the company's current Intel NetBurst and Pentium M micro-architectures, adding new features. Otellini also made the bold claim that ...we will deliver 'factor of 10' breakthroughs to a variety of platforms that can reduce energy consumption tenfold or bring 10 times the performance of today's products.

Otellini showed the first public demonstration of Merom, Conroe and Woodcrest - processors for notebook, desktop and server platforms designed on Intel's advanced 65-nanometer technology manufacturing process. He also said Intel has more than 10 processor projects that contain four (quad-core) or more processor cores per chip.

Otellini also announced that forthcoming lower-power products will lead to a new category of ultra energy-efficient Handtop PC devices that provide a converged communication and PC-like experience but require less than a watt of processing power and weigh under a pound. That would mean a PC, similar in performance to an average PC today, with a 5 inch display, running off one battery for 24 hours.

All this information provided by the Intel President came as the dual-core market is heating up with AMD running newspaper ads in major U.S. newspapers proposing a dual-core duel that would pit the fastest server based on a 64-bit dual-core AMD processor with the fastest server based on an equivalent chip from Intel. AMD is clearly trying to distract media attention form the IDF and claims that if Intel accepts, the contest will be refereed by a third-party testing lab using standard benchmarks measuring performance and energy consumption.

I have both AMD AlthonXP(3000+ @ 2166Mhz and intel P4 HT 3Ghz PCs) and for video encoding my P4 works faster, but for games my amd kick ass, proberly coz my AMD cpu dun have SSE2 or SSE3 intrustions. but i really love the vision of AMD more, "Performance over just speed" or somthing like that.and my friend's AMD64 FX55 with the same Geforce 6800GT as me make me lift my eyebrows when playing. =)I m really excited to see how Intel is gonna deal, they can't juz hide behind the "GHZ" forever with such heat and power consumption.

MAKE TRIPLE CORE OR QUADUPLE CORE YOU DUMB AMD AND INTEL. I KNOW BOTH OF YOU HAVE THE CAPABILITY TO MAKE IT BUT YOU DON'T WANT TO BECAUSE YOU WANT TO RIP OFF EVERYONE WITH A 10 YEARS OLD TECHNOLOGY. BOYCOTT INTEL AND AMD!!! THEY DON'T DESERVE TO BE IN THE INDUSTRY.

Dual-Core Duel Heats-Up

Well Lets say this AMD pwns all i have the Dual-Core 4800+ i installed windows and then Linux in under 30 min for both thats 15 pair OS, intel has the problem because you pay for the name, AMD has the the power to kick Intel out. now for the fact right AMD and Intel have 100GHZ quad core CPU sitting there lets say they release slow so they get more money yeah ok its worng but thats who it works thats how it has always worked now deal with it out stop using the PC and start using a MAC ohh s**t yeah intel does mac now so...........................

Dual-Core Duel Heats-Up

"AMD and Intel have 100GHZ quad core CPU sitting there lets say they release slow so they get more money"Are you stupid or something? Ever heard of researching before posting? No they dont have 100ghz because the current materials used to make cpus need way too much tension to beat 4ghz and that means they melt down. There ARE new materials under research but they are still in the lab(i heard they reached 600ghz). It'll take years until the material is perfected and a single prototype is made. baka!

Dual-Core Duel Heats-Up

This quad core talk sounds like bulls**t to me... As I was reading below they have a heat issue... and before they can break the barrier there going to need to solve that... And thats were water cooled systems are going to be the future. We can't keep using fans and heatsinks...

Dual-Core Duel Heats-Up

I heard Intels pentium 5 project still has a lot of work to be done. The guy who said about water cooled systems isn't far off. Apparently the P5 project needed liquid nitrogen cooling...i would love to see the everyday office worker with a nitrogen cooled desktop PC.

Apparently the P5 project needed liquid nitrogen cooling...i would love to see the everyday office worker with a nitrogen cooled desktop PC"ok lets say this the P5 i havent heard about maybe that intel trying to keep there single cores going i know AMD isnt going to be making Single cores CPUS no more. and Nitrogen thats a bad idea i dont think that could even work for the you are using elec and the fact that silacon cant handle a brust of something that cool it would in fact kill the chip. also i do believe that AMD has the 4ghz broken because the muilti core they like 2 2.2 cores run as 4.8, ut im not sure on that yet but from a inside source i know there is a project on the 100ghz going now and its in there testing so that means there is a working ship out there and all. so if you like to do the research

Dual-Core Duel Heats-Up

Adamat 12:24 27/8/2005just in case you dont know nitrogen cooling exists for cpus. Also just because you got 2 3ghz cores that doesnt mean you get 6 ghz performance, you dont at all.As for the 100ghz project well its a PROJECT and as it was stated before current technology is not enough to handle it thus the need for nitrogen cooling. And no its not a working chip, its not in test phase, its in early development phase, VERY different.

LOLOLOLOLZ, WHAT A BUNCH OF f**kTARDS!!! THEY POST HERE THINKING SOMEONE WILL GIVE THEM CREDIT AND IGNORE THEIR RIDICULOUS(LET ME REPEAT 'RIDICULOUS!!!!!!!') SPELLING MISTAKES. ROFL STUPID b***hES

Congrats anon at 9:14 1/9/2005, if the world were to depend on people such as yourself instead of the nerds we would still be living in wooden houses, riding horses and most likely we would still belong to england.

Lets put it this way, i know that there have been testing done on the 100ghz level, seeing that i was project manager for AMDs sub Lowtech services, but i have to say its always the catch and release move for Intel and AMD, lets put it this way they sell you a AMD A64X2 4800+ now but they have had that chip but a 1 year now, they place lower end chips out first then hit you slow with the bigger and better.

Anonymousat 9:14 1/9/2005 - you're a stupid twat. and so is the guy below you. Go back to school, learn English, or just go and shoot yourself, any of those (especially the latter) are good ideas for retards like you.
