ATI's RADEON based video cards get an extra performance boost thanks to the availability of CATALYST 3.4 from ATI Technologies Inc. CATALYST is the industry's leading software suite that includes unified driver and software applications for ATI's RADEON family of graphics products. This software suite is based on the foundations of stability, performance, quality and innovation. Among its many new features, Version 3.4 is designed to improve video card performance by up to 30 per cent* in certain applications.

From the time we launched the CATALYST software suite, we have been maintaining the most aggressive update schedule in the industry, said Terry Makedon, Senior Product Manager of Software, ATI Technologies Inc. Furthermore, all our drivers are fully approved by receiving Microsoft Windows Hardware Quality Labs (WHQL) certification. The fact that ATI has such large performance gains while having the best recognized image quality in the industry is a testament to our dedication to provide the world's best software for graphic cards.

Other CATALYST 3.4 enhancements include:

Fullstream Acceleration of DIVX Player: Resulting from the partnership ATI has with DivXNetworks, Inc., users of RADEON class products based on RADEON 9500 models and higher will enjoy improved DivX content playback. Through a unique accelerated post-processing algorithm (supported in DivX Player version 2.1 and higher) users can enjoy higher quality DivX content exclusively on select RADEON products.
Enhanced Color Management system: A new control panel, available for all RADEON users, has been designed for a unique user experience. Users can easily control the color of desktop content, gaming and video playback. Additionally, users can also now define profiles for individual applications and switch between them with the new hotkey feature.

EAZYLOOK: Designed as a revolutionary user interface for home theater settings, EAZYLOOK seamlessly integrates ATI's REMOTE WONDER and ATI's MULTIMEDIA CENTER software suite.
To ensure stable and reliable performance, ATI video card drivers found in CATALYST 3.4 have received Microsoft Windows Hardware Quality Labs (WHQL) certification. ATI continues the tradition of always providing their end users with Microsoft certified drivers for the highest quality.

>>>ATI f**kING SUCKS YOU f**kING IDIOTS <<<Wow! Right to the point, but i wouldnt go that far. I like ATi, and own one of their cards. Its a nice card (8500le, bit old but it gets the job one =)) and is more than enough proof ATi doesnt suck. As much as i love my Nvidia cards, i can see how great ATi is, and even if i did hate them, i would atleast calue there lowering of costs in high end cards, and their pressure on Nvidia for improving cards to where we are today.ANd also, grow some f**ken nuts and attach a name if you want to say something and have us take it remotely serious.

Nicely put DRDeath, How ever how many people own a 5800Ultra? i bought one for $250 leadtek a300i dont think its half bad with score of 5800 in 3dmark2003 and goddam is it over clockable i am mighty satisfied... And thats proof when you actually own one.So instead taking the mickey out of this apparently crap card use one first! :-) (if you can afford it)

justanotherasshole...Wow, thats pretty cheap. I assume thats $US so it would be $500 here it wher ethe same rate as yours. Did you get it of a friend or something? I qwoulda picked one up in second, i paid nearly that for my GeForce4 Ti4800se.And its a Leadtek one too, Leadtek rulez!! They made the "Leafblower" into a quieter, cooler, 1 slot version. It looks pretty sweet too, definitely different to the average card LOL. I have stood by the card, no matter how bad things looked, since its only real faults where fixable by Manufacturers like Leadtek etc. THe only remaining one was the limited bandwidth really. But with so much RAW power, in most cases, that doesnt matter (not until future games atleast)

Ok the way you tell they are cheating is you run the same test on the developer version of 3dMark2003 and move the camera so it renders a different part of the scene than the normal preset test scene and the new nVidia Detonator drivers don't render it anywhere near correct, because it's not the preprogrammed path they optimized the drivers for.Meaning they are cheating by preprogramming the drivers for specific scenes and not using all the actual rendering data. So, check the link I put in my last message and SEE the proof. It's a few pages into the article, so for you people who can't follow a story, I'll skip right to the proof shots.[url removed] that. If you can't follow what they're saying try going to the front of the article and read the whole thing. And as far as why the scores are better on ingame tests: That's because the 5900Ultra is a faster card. I never said it wasn't. Doesn't change the fact they are cheating to improve their scores in this benchmark they supposedly don't care about.

>>I know what your saying has a valid point, but whyc ant you see any of mine? The program was written by Futuremark. Its what they SAY A DirectX9 program should be.<<It uses pixel shaders 2.0 and vertex shaders 2.0. It's what MicroSoft says is DX9. It uses the more current technology. The coding might not be exactly like the DX9 coding they'll use in games, but that varies from game to game anyway. And if they based the code on ATi cards, there is one very good reason for that. When it came out, ATi was THE ONLY DX9 capable card! Period. They had no choice.

Even when they over-clocked the 5800 Ultra, it did not fear too well as DeQuosaek put it..."Even though it's already pushed practically to it's limits?""Here are some overclocking comparisons made comparing its default clock to the overclocked speeds for you. Nothing big to note"That was from HARDOCP.COM I would figure the overclocking would prove fruitless for the 5800 Ultra as it's almost maxed out. And from the results, it seems to be so. Over-clocking the 5900 Ultra, now that will show some serious results! Not the 5800 Ultra.

Bloody hell! Just when you spend $400 on a new kick ass graphics card a new, better one is released! This really pisses me off big time! That's what I hate about this Nvidia/ATI fight - they're always trying to better each other and gain control over the market! Best to keep ur older card an wait awhile for the price to drop or wait even longer for a new innovative card to be released! e.g. the GF2 GTS was a huge jump in performance in comparison to the GF1 and had cool new rendering techniques! :P

have you guys ever heard of internal computer cooling systems 12fan extration system six fans blowing with six fans sucking and built in filteration system the fact that my ambient temp is below 23celcius and the card ittself never goes above 46celcius....and i am using all the a300 enhancements downloadable from leadtek.eg chip cooler software. The whole bloody card is Aluminum helps a heap. besides i dont want to start a bloody argument as so many of you do on this site, just buy a good ati or nvidia card make a good cooling system and overclock away i think you will be amazed at what you can do even with a 5800ultra.

But if I were buying a new card I would want one that will play the upcoming DirectX9 games well too. That's the whole point of FUTUREmark. Thinking ahead. Then again... it's basically the same results more or less. Usually if it's faster in 3dm2003 its also faster in ut2k3. :)

New Catlyst Promises 30 Per Cent Improvement

I would say Unreal2003 as a benchmark. Why? Because the idea of future proof cards is moronic for the High-End market. New cards are released so fast now,(3-6 months) that the old ways of future proof cards is quite silly and obsolete.(Pun intended)By years end, NEW mid-range cards will be faster then last years High-End cards. So buy a card that plays games for the NOW.

The recent 3DMark03/Detonator FX controversy seems to have simmered down a little, which I suppose is to be expected. Still, I find it odd that NVIDIA has yet to officially comment on the subject. They haven't released an updated version of the Detonator FX drivers that fixes the "bug," either.Ya. Still waiting for that "bug patch" from Nvidia. lololololol. I won't hold my breath.

Will anyone mind if I talk about the file instead of my ego problems? Installed and run with no problems on my system: Athlon XP 1700+, ECS L7s7a2 mobo, Radeon 8500le, Windows 98 SE with Directx 9.0a. This Catalyst release doesn't seem to include the diagnostic tests that were available through the Windows Device Manager in the previous versions. Hard to say if I've had any performance increase since I've been mucking around with my hardware (mobo upgrade, disk reformat/reinstall, new memory), but I have had no stability or compatability problems so far.

Hey peoples.... I have a question...? Everyone here is talkin abt their kick-ass card... but sadly I have a 9000pro 128mb...which I got last December. I have that vid card on a ECS KTVTA3 (i think) with a 1800+ throughbred. Can anyone tell me if this new driver will help my card... and exactly how bad does my card suck...? thanx

Who are these losers who race for the first post, I mean, is it some show of status to be first? I would rather be last so people reading down the page actually notice your post.Anyway I have a P3 at .99 GH with 512 mgs of ram and a Radeon 9200. It plays UT2003 and Unreal II with the video settings maxed flawlessy. The 9200 is like $120, thats great where I'm coming from. I find it funny people like BW below me mantains the illusion of status by by buying a $500 something card that will cost mabey $150 next year and calling everyone lame for making sensible economic choices. I could have bought a 9800 pro, but I'd rather buy something better in a year that costs less.

Has anyone else had problems with atis driver updates. I have a radeon pro 9600 and gta vice city wont even load up you click on the icon and the hr glass comes on and then does nothing. Worked fine with my gforce ti4200. had no problems with it. As soon as i stuck the ati card in doesnt work. Also was playing midnight club 2 and installed the 3.6 drivers and the games freezes. I dont know if it is a rockstar games and ati problem but it is annoying as shit. I ask ati and they are just like duuurr.

New Catlyst Promises 30 Per Cent Improvement

Good products from the competition on both sides make for a better market for us the consumer. So with ATI finally pounding out quality cards nVidia should wake up and stop thinking they have the ONLY option for the videocard market. Then they will push for cheaper and better cards and ATI will respond in kind.Bottom line. We get good cards for cheap.gg cheap cards!

New Catlyst Promises 30 Per Cent Improvement

Yep, a lotta good cards that'll be seein the light of day soon now. but dont always trust the '30% improvement' claims. i saw the same on the nvidia site for the 4403s, then the asterik (*) and the tiny print: ** Performance results based upon GeForce FX 5600 Ultra running UnrealTournament 2003 Antalus flyby. At least the 44.03 is more stable than the other 40s i've tried. it was ridiculous, restarts in the middle of me checking my email.

New Catlyst Promises 30 Per Cent Improvement

(radeon 9700 pro)i ran 3dmark 2003 with the new drivers and i got a 550 point increase, all my games and 3d appz run faster and better, higher frame rates like crazy, its works great for me, people with problems try reformating and installing every thing in proper order, it helps alot.

New Catlyst Promises 30 Per Cent Improvement

LOL yeah Pramma. And another thing, for both companies they say "Performacne increase of up to" lol.SO you may be getting a 30% increase, or you may get 1% lol. But either way, hopefully these drivers claim to be what they are, i know 3.1 and 3.2 where absolute shithosue, on my system with the Radeon 8500. Still gotta use the stock drivers.... dont know if i'll risk these.Good thing about Nvidias drivers IMO, is theres minimal no risk in an update, i have a GF3 Ti200, and a GF4 Ti4800se and never have drivers caused any problems for me. Not even these 4*.** sets people curse out.So for somebody with an 8500 card, how do these drivers work? I would really like a newer set for the my parents pc with this card...

New Catlyst Promises 30 Per Cent Improvement

I just wanned to comment Detonator 44. It was caught cheating, meaning that Nividia increased purpeously speed of several appilications like 3dmark UT2003 etc( optimized it just to run them ), but the card itself is shit and in next games, every god damn FX user will see that its unstable shit.read more info from [url removed]

New Catlyst Promises 30 Per Cent Improvement

Yes there is 3.4drivers for your sapphire card, you have to click on [find a driver] under the powered by tab cause you have a powered by card not a built by ati card. The last three driver releases all had a performance boost the last one 3.2 were the best performance ive had yet,Ill have to try the 3.4 set soon.....

New Catlyst Promises 30 Per Cent Improvement

Hey SSCREW I think your problem is with your PC. I've neve had problems with any ATI drivers, I've also had no problems with any Nvidia drivers on my last card. I have a 9700 Pro and a few of my friends do also and they NEVER have problems with the drivers. Looks like you need to format your PC and start fresh.

New Catlyst Promises 30 Per Cent Improvement

I wonder what kind of effects this will have with some of the games out there since I have noticed a few titles seem to have negative effects with radeon. What Im mostly wondering is will Doom3 have any special settings enabled just for this new version of catalyst. Maybe ati is just setting their drivers so they deliver what the latest generation of games will ask for.
