NVIDIA today announced that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire AGEIA Technologies, the industry leader in gaming physics technology.
AGEIA's PhysX software is widely adopted with more than 140 PhysX-based games shipping or in development on Sony Playstation3, Microsoft XBOX 360, Nintendo Wii and Gaming PCs. AGEIA physics software is pervasive with over 10,000 registered and active users of the PhysX SDK.
"The AGEIA team is world class, and is passionate about the same thing we are - creating the most amazing and captivating game experiences," stated Jen-Hsun Huang, president and CEO of NVIDIA. "By combining the teams that created the world's most pervasive GPU and physics engine brands, we can now bring GeForce-accelerated PhysX to hundreds of millions of gamers around the world."
"NVIDIA is the perfect fit for us. They have the world's best parallel computing technology and are the thought leaders in GPUs and gaming. We are united by a common culture based on a passion for innovating and driving the consumer experience," said Manju Hegde, co-founder and CEO of AGEIA.
By signing this deal, NVIDIA will be competing with Intel who has acquired AGEIA's rival, Havok, in September.
"The computer industry is moving towards a heterogeneous computing model, combining a flexible CPU and a massively parallel processor like the GPU to perform computationally intensive applications like real-time computer graphics," continued Mr. Huang. "NVIDIA's CUDA technology, which is rapidly becoming the most pervasive parallel programming environment in history, broadens the parallel processing world to hundreds of applications desperate for a giant step in computational performance. Applications such as physics, computer vision, and video/image processing are enabled through CUDA and heterogeneous computing."

who cares. Ageia video cards proved the games actually run slower, not faster. Take your s**tty bs hardware and shove it up nvidias ass. I use ATI so I'm actually happy Nvidia is wasting their money on this s**tty technology.

I care

does anyone use this sh*t yet? who the fk carespointless

ageia doesnt make video cards ano at 19:17 they make physics cards

The ageia chip actually increase performance if used properly. However most games has only used it for extra detailed particle effects. In the future it will be used to offload the CPU and create realitic physics, for instance if you shoot a barrel a hole will actually be created which you can see through. Instead of a poor decal with a black hole inside of it. Nvidia will probably integrate this inside their GPU instead of selling it as a standalone physics card as it previously has.

But now it's not really advisable to bye a ageia physiX card , because1. only a few games have ageia physics and2.they're fkn expensive.
Nvidia To Acquire AGEIA
i heard that ageia's cards main problem is the bandwith... no way a simple pci can support the needs of modern games. but, if it was an integrated chip in a gpu, maybe...

"for instance if you shoot a barrel a hole will actually be created which you can see through"that has nothing to do with physics processing.

So, AMD gets ATI, so nVidia and Intel team up... sort of. And intel has Havok. And nVidia has Ageia. Which makes them rivals. Sounds like friendly fire to me.Wait... Havok doesnt make physics processor cards... Havok does the physics ENGINE... So, Megagames, how are they rivals?

Did anyone realize that the ceo of nvidia has some sort of fetish for the word pervasive? he used it at least 4 times in 3 statements.
Nvidia To Acquire AGEIA
14:54, he only said it twice..and honestly this will only be a good thing for us, finding ways for games to bring less load on the GPU and CPU will increase performance as well as bring in a new gen of mind blowing graphics.

To Anonymous at 11:32, it has everything to do with physics processing. Physics isn't only about gravity, it's how objects react to interaction. For instance, collision and deforming are both physics processesing. Normally objects can't be deformed freely in games, but with advanced physics they can. If you drop a car on a barrel it'll deform differently each time, depening on various aspects. A quadcore CPU would stand on its knees if everything in a game would be physics enabled instead of pre-coded.

I'd rather take a dump on Nvidia than actually pay more money for useless added hardware. Go ahead nvidia, spend all your money on crap. I'll continue to dump on your product while buying ATI-Products.

Being a little bit ignorant are we? Anon below me.. ATi (aka AMD) is doing the exact same thing with their GPU. There is no added hardware, only added functions to the GPU itself. I think this is a great thing, adds more possibilities to games. The GPU can process more advanced physics, while you get the spare CPU power for AI.

Since the announce of the PhysX hardware it was just a matter of time for this to take place...

This is the beginning of the end for ATI. :(

FK THIS SH***************TIt's FKN pointlessphysics these days are barely gettin off the ground and are still as buggy as hellAegia is FKN pointless
