Parents needed for underage gamers

Kmart announced it will refuse sale of mature-rated games to anyone under 17, using a barcode scanner that will prompt cashiers to ask for identification from young people.
After Kmart's news conference in Washington, Wal-Mart announced it would adopt the same policy. In a letter last month to Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions, the president of Toys R Us said the practice is already in place at his company's stores.

Sessions applauded the move, but said he would prefer that retailers stop selling mature-rated games, as Montgomery Ward and Sears, Roebuck and Co. already have done.
Sessions said he believes "intense involvement" with violent video games can cause a young person to become violent. "Common sense should tell us that positively reinforcing sadistic behavior, as these games do, cannot be good for our children," said Sen. Sam Brownback, R-Kan. "We cannot expect that the hours spent in school will mold and instruct a child's mind but that hours spent playing violent games will not."

ok, the american government is the lamest and most anal in the world. They don't shows womens brests on T.V, can't use profanity on T.V, and its downright lame. Hell they show Striptease on T.V up in Canada all the time cause they don't have a problem with that. Japan doesn't care. On Dragon Ball Z, she say "Sh*t" and "Son of a B*tch" and chop aliens into little bits. I've seen it and I have no problem with it. Im 14, never have gotten in trouble from the police. Well once I got to close to a house that was on fire and they threatened to arrest me. :P AMERICA SUCKS, FREEDOM IS A JOKE AND A LIE.

Not letting kids play the games they like is wrong. Even if its violence. I wouldnt get a game thats full of porn cause the game isnt that good probably and they're marketing is a scantily clad woman on front. Kids dont become violent from playing video games. Kids that are violent in nature may play violent video games then go shoot someone, but that doesnt mean that someone who plays games for fun is gonna get the idea into his/her head that its ok to take a handgun to school and shoot people. Wal-Mart and K-Mart are just doing this for PR reasons. Its not really their fault. Its the parents, the media and the government who cant get seen to understand that its *not* the video games' fault, its the parents' fault or even a mental problem that the kid cannot help. The government is trying to quell the parents and the parents just dont know. So they panic and say "i dont want my kid to be violent" and get worked up over the ratings. Its basically a big misunderstanding. You dont get violent from playing games. One thing i do agree with is not letting porn be sold to 10 year olds. It may just be scantily clad women, or it could be like the pictures of laura you have. Granted, they are only cartoons, but they prtray the image and arent appropriate for young children. When kids are 14 they should be allowed to buy any game they choose, because they know what is right and wrong, but a 12 year old will walk into a store and see the women and probably not think "This is wrong i shouldnt be looking at this"My last point is that it can be much more effective to explain and give examples that simply use the limited vocabulay our most favorite 4-letter words give us.-Cheeseman
