Just as the graphics war seems to be settling down for the holiday season, Samsung goes and announces that changes are on their way and just maybe, finally Doom 3 might get a proper card for its highest quality settings.

Samsung Electronics has begun shipping the world's first 512-megabit (Mb) GDDR3 memory device which is the most advanced graphics double-data-rate synchronous DRAM available for graphics card makers, as well as electronic game console manufacturers. The new Samsung device has at least twice the density of any graphics memory available today, enabling much richer textures in gaming imagery.

With our new 512 megabit GDDR3 memory, we can provide sharply improved performance, reduced power consumption and more efficient space utilization for 512 megabyte graphics cards, said Mueez Deen, Director of Marketing, Graphics Memory, Samsung Semiconductor, Inc.

In November 2003, Samsung introduced 256Mb GDDR3 memory and holds the largest share of the market for graphics memory embedded in high-end graphics cards.

Market analysts predict that the 2005 graphics DRAM market will be 30 percent higher than this year's figure, reaching close to USD 1.47 billion. The Samsung 512Mb GDDR3, the first JEDEC-standard GDDR3 to operate at up to 1.6Gbps, is faster than any other graphics memory on the market.

Mass production of the 512Mb GDDR3 will begin early next year.

I had a desire to begin my own business, but I didn't earn enough of cash to do that. Thank heaven my dude proposed to use the loans. So I took the short term loan and made real my old dream.

ok.. what game asks for a 512 mb 3d card whit a core clock of 700 mhz and a memmory clock of 1500 mhz??yes.. NONE!!! those next gen cards.. sure the will be great.. and fast.. and good.. and freaking USSLES!!!the need to make games that need these cards first.. i got a 6800 le (overclockt and unlocked) and i run every game at max detail and at a high resolution whit no serius frame drops..instead of putting al this money in new and faster 3d cards.. why not put it in new and more FUN games?

so what some of you people are saying is that we should stop the advancement of technology and poor all our founds into making games?that statment is in trouble of sounding a little retarded ><

Hey guys ... how long do you keep your 3D card ? When I read post here, it seems that everybody always have the last card. I keep my card for 2.5 - 3 years I think and if you buy a 512 Mo card today I don't think it will be useless later ...

Before anyone gets confused, boards generally have eight chips, making 8 x 512Mb = 512MB total capacity.Just letting anyone know, since at first, I was wondering if there was a mistake in the article (Mb != MB).

Wow gamewhore thats the most advanced graphics card out there, except it probably wont work very well with games cause its a workstation card. I wonder if there are any benchmarks with that card?

This will be the death to ATI and nVidia cuz Samsung has alot of money to make better cards and to market them AND to support them.Unlike ATI and Nvidia Samsung dosn't need the profits it gets from the graphic card industry!

It hurts my head to read these MegaGames posts... god why do I bother. You people are so stupid. I think all 50 million that voted for Dubbya all post on MegaGames. (And I bet 45 million of those votes had "FiRsT VoTe!!!@21" written on them.)Out of the 20 posts below mine, there were 2, maybe 3, that showed signs of intelligence. *sigh*

Hey do us a favor you wrote "Out of the 20 posts below mine, there were 2, maybe 3, that showed signs of intelligence. *sigh*". So if you just decided to chime in like this you didn't add a damn thing either. On topic...1. Samsung isn't making graphics cards they are just the ones making the RAM to go on the cards.2. Both ATi and nVidia top end cards are currently using 256MB of GDDR 3. I don't understand why you guys think one is going to do it and the other isn't.3. Think of the possibilites, gaming at 1600X1200 with maxed AA and AF and no noticeable loss of performance.4. That Wildcat card as mentioned is for the 3D professional. This card is used for people who make games and design with CAD.5. The cost should still be inline with the current high end cards. Did the price go up noticably with the introduction of 128MB of RAM, etc...

I just found this pretty neat site that is giving away free stuff, such as the 1GB of Corsair XMX Xtreme Memory, a bundle including; an Ati Radeon 9800 PRO, 512MB of PC3200 DDR RAM, and a 180GB hard drive. There is also the option to get the brand new ATI Radeon x800 PRO video card, or a cash option. The best offer has to be the Compaq Presario laptop though, it looks pretty cool.It is completely legitimate, and thousands of people have received their products from the free sites so far.All you need to do is copy the following link into your browser, and follow the simple instructions as you go!Here is my link:[url removed]

Before you go willy nilly whinging about "lessmoney in games" crap, look at it from a big picture. A graphics card is not a computer. Think about the opportunity Samsung is offering to motherboard manufacturers. AGP 16x may be just around the corner. And if it is well priced, i guarantee that it will blow the "dual NVIDIA" idea out of the market. 512mb cards would have 32 pipelines on average, which to me is a real boost in power. But the main issue is, would it be compatible with the rest of a computer? Will we need new boards?

Samsung 512 GDDR3 Ships

does any body on this site know what they are talking about??? or about computers??? ati x800 uses a 2.0 or a 1.6 samsung ddr ram... you know the ram that is on your video card... 64 MB, 128 MB or 256 MB those are all ram and in most cases comes from Samsung, Hynix, Infineon, Elixir or Etrontech (to name a few)so the next 512 MB video card might be using this new ram. this is all that this article is talking about. samgung is not going to make video cards, just helping ati and nvidia make better ones.

whoever mentioned that 3dlabs wildcat card is a freeking noob. that card goes for over $3000 alone. it is one hell of a card but you won't play any games on it coz its not supported...if you can even afford to buy a card like that. i'm sure the new ati/nvidia card will hit the market soon. either way, gf6800 or x800 is more than enough for doom3. d3 runs wery nicely on super high settings and hi-res on these cards. besides, fps is locked to 60 in d3 anyways.

hi guys i can tell you that the 512MB video card will be release in the year 2005! on may 28price: 500+ (which is bringing the 6800 ULTRA down to 300+) People are not rich so dont expect to buy it for 3000$ USD.

Samsung 512 GDDR3 Ships

yeah i agree with.....one of the anonymoses, i think you guys are way above your heads, when this card comes out it will be ofcourse pci-ex16 (not agpx16 you noob) and duh samsung doesnt make vga's and never will, this is just like a 512 stick of ram for your computer, that doesnt mean that corsair made your comp now does it? and you prpbably wont get any pipeline increases for a while and even then they probably wont double right away, 16 is plenty my hl-2 gamers system has an x600xt (i was the first kid in sd with pci express graphics by months, dont ask how, top secret) and it has only 4 pipelines, you noobs have no clue what your talkin about.
