Gothic 1 Remake’s lockpicking skill grants more lockpicks per attempt at higher tiers but leaves the minigame itself completely unchanged, making the skill feel unrewarding. The SkillfulLocks mod makes the Picklock skill actually change the minigame: Skilled tier removes as many connections as provably safe per lock, and Master tier removes every connection so each piece moves independently. Furthermore, all 416 known lock layouts were run through an exhaustive solver to ensure no lock is ever left unsolvable at the Skilled tier. Consequently, a maxed thief finally feels like a master instead of someone still fighting the same web of linked pins as a beginner.
Skill Tiers at a Glance

Untrained — Vanilla locks, completely unchanged.
Skilled — Per-lock proven-safe maximum connections removed. On 297 of 416 locks that means every connection. The rest receive an individual safe limit.
Master — All connections removed. Every piece moves on its own.

Why You Need This Mod
This mod is useful if you have invested heavily in the Picklock skill and expect it to meaningfully change how locks feel at higher tiers. The per-lock solver data ensures the Skilled tier never produces an unsolvable layout, which was a known issue in earlier versions. Additionally, the mod leaves no data in your save and is always safe to uninstall.
How to Get Started

Download the mod archive and extract it to your PC.
Install UE4SS experimental build for Gothic 1 Remake if you have not already.
Copy the SkillfulLocks folder into your UE4SS Mods directory:
Gothic 1 Remake\G1R\Binaries\Win64\ue4ss\Mods\SkillfulLocks\

The included enabled.txt activates the mod automatically. No mods.txt editing is needed.
Launch the game. Check UE4SS.log for a line like:
[SkillfulLocks] 1.2.0 loaded: 416 locks known, 416 safe depths

To configure tier behavior, edit SkillfulLocks\Scripts\config.lua and restart the game or use CTRL+R for a hot reload.
To uninstall, delete the SkillfulLocks folder. Your save is unaffected.

Good to Know

Requires UE4SS experimental build for Gothic 1 Remake.
Breaking a lockpick may remove additional connections on top of the mod’s changes. This is the game’s own per-break mechanic and stays active.
On Linux, add WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dwmapi=n,b" %command% to your Steam launch options.
