AMD has released its annual Adrenaline driver release for its Radeon graphics cards and it's quite an exciting update on the last one. This brings with it a host of new features, including ReLive game streaming with a tool called AMD Link, recording VR gameplay is now supported, and the Adrenaline software interface has been improved to provide ready access to features like FreeeSync, Wattman overclocking, and performance graphs.
One of the major pledges AMD made when it replaced its aging Catalyst Control Center with the Crimson Engine in 2015, was more regular driver releases. It has followed through with that pledge, releasing new drivers with improved game performance and bug fixes on a near monthly basis and it has committed to major releases at least once a year. The Adrenaline 2019 driver release might not have much of a name change from last year, but it does bring with it a number of feature improvements which make it exciting all the same.
The expansion of Relive will make it a more useful tool for streamers and gamers who like to record and upload their gaming footage on a regular basis, but for the average gamer, improvements to overclocking could be of greater impact. Much like Nvidia added automated overclocking with its RTX cards, AMD's 2019 Adrenaline Edition driver has added automated overclocking to Wattman. It goes one step further than Nvidia too, because it adds automated memory overclocking.
As PCGamer highlights, invididual games have seen some performance enhancements with this driver release too. They include: 4 percent in Assassin's Creed Odyssey, 3 percent in Shadow of the Tomb Raider, 5 percent in Doom and Wolfenstein II, and 7 percent in Strange Brigade.
