While it's all vogue to crap on Windows 8 and its successor-ish update, 8.1 like we're suddenly in the Vista years again, the new OS from Microsoft is gathering steam. But not just from new system buyers, but from Steam users. That's right, gamers don't seem to mind Windows 8.
This was unearthed by the guys over at PCGamesN, who found that just under 20 per cent of all Steam users are running Windows 8. This isn't a patch on Windows 7, with over 64 per cent of all users running that OS, but it's very significant.
However, Windows 8 easily eclipses both Windows Vista and OS X and longtime gaming favourite and now rather aged, Windows XP, which is languishing with just 6.17 per cent of the Steam user base.
I actually got a chance to hear a talk by the founder of PCGamesN recently, who was discussing the trouble with building new gaming websites with such dominance from sites like IGN and Gamespot (and of course Megagames). He said that while his site had initially gained a lot of traffic from smashing Windows 8 for its gaming capabilities (or lackthereof) it's actually come a long way and that they quite like it now.
Do any of you guys game on Windows 8 or 8.1? If so, what do you think? Is it as bad as everyone makes out or like those near 20 per cent of Steam users, do you think it's fine?
