Microsoft And Sony Claims To Have Outsold Each Other In Europe

Recent interviews with a Sony and a Microsoft bosses turned out to reveal contradicting European sales numbers for Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.

"I am delighted to be able announce today that we have sold more PlayStation 3s throughout Europe than Xbox 360 - even though they launched sixteen months before PS3", said SCEE boss David Reeves at the PlayStation Day conference. Reeves then went on to say that 5 million Playstation 3 units have been sold in Europe, as well as 12 million PSPs and 48 million Playstation 2s.

Almost at the same time, Aaron Greenberg, Director of Product Management for Xbox 360 and Xbox Live, was having an interview where he cited different/contradicting numbers.

"Today Xbox 360 has a 5-million-unit console sales lead on a global basis based on most recently public reported data from both companies. This includes more than double the installed base in the US according to actual NPD sell-through and over a 1-million-unit lead across Europe also based on reported sell-through from Chart Track and GfK", said Mr. Greenberg.
