Prey was one of those games that resonated strongly with gamers and critics but was never able to translate that into market success. Over the last few years, we heard all kinds of rumors and speculations about Prey 2 until Bethesda finally gave us brief glimpse of the game at E3 this year.
Arkane boss Raphael Colantonio released a "What is Prey?" video that give more in-depth info about the upcoming game and revealing that it has nothing whatsoever to do with its predecessor.
"Prey is not a sequel, it's not a remake, it has no tie with the original," said Colantonio in that video which was actually recorded in June. "You have to look at it like a re-imagining of the IP."
"It's not just shooting. It's more like a hybrid game, where narrative meets with action meets with a little bit of an RPG layer. You have some weapons, but you also have lots of other things, including powers that you can learn from the aliens," he added before assuring that players will get to put their hands on conventional and alien weapons and gadgets "that are not meant for combat, but somehow work out in combat." Players will also have the freedom to play as a man or woman.
Prey 2 is scheduled for release sometime in 2017.
