2k Games, Rockstar's publisher, has registered the domain name Red Dead Online, fuelling rampant speculation that the teased next Rockstar Game is one that will see us able to play in a persistent online world, set in the wild west. There will be gunfights, there will be horses and endless train tracks for us to tie our victims to.
Of course details are almost non-existent for the game right now as 2K and Rockstar are being coy, but this is a decent indication of the type of experience that they are aiming for.

Of course this shouldn't come as much of a surprise for fans of the series and Rockstar itself. GTA V included a large portion of the game set in an online space, be it a private server with friends, or one where you and the public can all battle it out in various games and pursuits in the world of online crime. So it seems likely it will do something similar for a new Red Dead game.
Red Dead Redemption, the last game set in the Red Dead universe, did include an online mode, but it was 16 player versus, rather than anything persistent. We would expect something a little more fleshed out when the next Red Dead game does eventually show up, though when is anyone's guess.
