The latest Avowed update landed on March 12 and includes player-requested features, bug fixes, quest and dialog fixes, and a roadmap promise from Obsidian.
News in brief
- One community-requested feature includes gaining extra talent points at specific levels, up to and including level 30.
- There's also a new accessibility feature to increase font size in documents, tutorials, pop-ups, and the quest ledger.
- Obsidian revealed that a roadmap will be shared in the coming weeks, though we've no further details on what that will involve.
The latest Avowed patch notes for Patch 1.3.0 can be found on the Obsidian forum and are pretty extensive, but we'll go through some of the highlights below.
Obsidian plans to release its roadmap soon, saying that it will apparently "go over some of the plans we have that will be coming to the game over the upcoming year." We'll need to wait and see whether that means free content, DLCs, or something else.
Avowed's latest update includes the addition of several community-requested features, including the following:
- Player characters now gain an extra talent point at levels 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30. Characyers who have already levelled past this point should be granted these additional points automatically.
- PC players using keyboard and mouse can now toggle between walking and running.
- A new accessibility feature lets players increase the font size and add bold styling to in-game documents, tutorials, pop-ups, and the quest ledger.
- A new static compass option means players can set the compass to always point north.
- An FOV slider when playing in third-person.
- Keybinding the option to toggle HUD on and off for screenshots.
System and gameplay fixes include a fix for that annoying companion electrocution issue
Crash fixes include capping the main menu frame rate to prevent crashes as well as fixing a save data issue causing crashes related to encountering spawning enemies with save/loading — plus loads of other fixes in the patch notes.
There are also a number of quest and dialogue fixes:
- The "Elder Offering" quest fix now means the quest properly resolves if the player paid for the stolen food and returned it.
- Players can now turn inn the "Dawntreader" quest to Ofryc, even if Marius and Kai aren't in the party.
Some system and gameplay improvements will be welcomed by players, like the fix which means companions with shocked status effect no longer electrocute the player when nearby — something that was pretty irritating to experience! Fast travel has been disabled during certain animations to prevent characters getting stuck when quest items are consumed before progression, and pistols now hit their targets more reliably.
Finally, Avowed fans will be pleased to hear that one of the main bug fixes includes preventing enemies like the Sporeking from respawning after being killed. Phew!
We're now patiently awaiting the game's roadmap while we explore the vast, open world of Eora.
