There's a lot of talk surrounding games like DayZ and Rust these days, hell I even talked about it an editorial put up a few hours ago, but open world zombie survival experiences have been around for a while and one of the most interesting and early games aboard that band wagon, is Project Zomboid which is the suburban equivalent of Rust's apocalyptic nothingness.
The only problem with comparing those three games of course, is that PZ doesn't have multiplayer. Or at least, it doesn't have it right now, but it's coming and according to the developers "it's not far off."
This is big news for PZ fans since the developers initially speculated that multiplayer would be way, way in the future, far beyond the final development of the single player game which still has plenty to be added to it. However, we've come a long way since originally offering our wife a pillow to rest her broken leg on and with the success of the aforementioned games, the devs obviously understand the popularity of these multiplayer survival titles, so they're adding it to Zomboid.
Coming soon, players will be able to join persistent servers with up to 11 other players,or set up their own to see how long they and their friends can survive in the quiet, city extremities that populate much of PZ's map.
"Though 'not far off' doesn't necessarily mean this week, or next week. But then again that's in the realm of remote possibility none-the-less," said the Indie Stone in a blog post.
"It all really depends on how well future tests go and what new issues crop up, but it's certainly not months away - or 'next year' as per previous community estimates."
If you like the look of the game, I'll give you one piece of advice: don't leave food in the oven too long. It sounds like a simple thing, but rarely in a game does over cooking your soup mean you burn your wife alive whilst bringing in every zombie from 100 miles.
