If you want to upgrade your RAM, now is the time

RAM prices have been crazy for years now. In late 2017 and throughout most of 2018, it was hard to tell which was more overpriced: graphics cards or RAM sticks. Now production finally seems to have caught up with demand and prices have returned to far more favorable levels.

So, if you've been waiting to upgrade to 16GB or a faster kit, now is the time.

Pricing for 16GB of DDR4 in early 2017 was around $80 for a kit of two 8GB kits. At peak pricing insanity, that same kit would be had for as much as $220 in early 2018, as PCGamer highlights, but over the past year prices have slowly trickled down to reasonable levels and today we can happily report that you can find a 16GB for under $100 again. In some cases, as little as $85.

You'll still to pay through the nose for the more powerful kits that edge towards 4,000Mhz and for kits larger than 32GB (and of course those with RGB) but if you're looking for something more mid-range with a modest 3,000MHz bandwidth, you should be able to grab one for $100 or less, which is huge news for the memory industry.

This is well timed too, as there have been rumors of new, higher-powered DDR4 kits arriving later this year alongside AMD's Ryzen 3000-series, as well as potential DDR6 sneaking its way into the market.

Are you planning to upgrade your memory now that prices have returned to normal?
