Leak: PlayStation 4 Set For 2014 Release With AMD CPU and GPU

The news comes from tech site, Semi Accurate, which was told by Japanese sources that the next PlayStation will be released after the next Xbox. The next Xbox is expected to be released during Christmas 2013 holiday, pushing PlayStation 4 release to 2014.

The same sources revealed that the next PlayStation’s CPU and GPU are being developed by AMD and that they both employ 28nm transistors.

The funny thing is that there are proprietary things in PCs, proprietary instructions or functions in Nvidia GPUs, AMD GPUs, Intel CPUs, etc. But nobody compares that in PC games. Wow, that's quite a lot of information, I propose that if somebody read all those posts they could get a job as a astro physicist and beat the recession for sure. AMD

Anyone who has used the A10-5800K FM2 series AMD knows they pack a pretty decent punch with their onboard video. Now your talking heavily revised version of what we already have which is tones more powerful then the current consoles.... This is a good fit really.... So it will be interesting to see how it performs when it comes out..... Technically they could easily do a crossfire of sorts as well with that ...... Wait and see

PS4 should play my old Atari

PS4 should play my old Atari cartridges and work with my old Amega monitor because if I want to use old atari games why would I even think about owning a god damn Atari already! Furthermore if i cant get 100000fps running mario 1 then I'm seriously gonna start a blog and bitch my fucking head off.

PC will always be better you can say, however PC everything isn't made for PC, and with PC many multiplayer games get hacked anyways and Pirated. Sick and tired of all you whining, fan-boy console bitches. I own a PC, a 360 and a PS3. I own all the great exclusive games for 360 and PS3. Both PS3 and 360 are weak machines with 6 and 7 year old hardware. You think FarCry 3 looks awesome on your 360 and PS3, but then you see it on a PC and your jaw will drop. The only thing keeping console games from being a bit better is..........ding! ding! ding! We have a winner. Yes, you need new fucking hardware. For you console faggots who still don't get it, you need a new "Console". It's just unfortanute for you, that both the PS4 and 720 have both been confirmed to be running only a quad-core processor. A mid-end AMD quad-core CPU. So, even when your new systems come out, the console will have restraints on due to low end processing power. So, while every PC gamer is enjoying their six and eight-core CPU, with no restraints on their systems, you can sit on the couch kicking yourself in the ass for paying 500 - 600 USD for an overpriced piece of shit with only basic PC components. You won't be paying to

You won't be paying to exclusively play old games. Everyone with more than, say, 5 years of gaming on their backs knows that every now and then you get into a nostalgic mood. Sometimes you WANT to play "old played out shit", thats why emulators exist. Some people want to sell their old consoles but eventually they'll miss some of the games they played, those of us with at least rudimentary foresight realize that and ask for backwards compatible consoles.

Fed up

Im fed up with cross platform games continuosly lowering the bar on gameplay and graphical performance, just so it can run across multiple systems. The PS3 with all its CPUs and its raw power, hasnt pushed out more than a couple of PS3 specific titles. And those that are released are fantastic. Why is it that the Xbox 360 is able to perform on par with the PS3? Sony should push the envelope with the PS3 and crank out more system specific games.

I can say it because I have it all and use it.

PS3 is below Xbox360, and besides when they make a game all they do is port it over so there for its the same shit with almost no noticeable difference. And I can say that Wii has a exclusive game that looks better then a lot ps3 and 360 games (Metroid Prime 3) that's about it. If you are concerned about graphics power (from the sounds of it) its all about how much companies are willing to invest in the game. I rather they make a game fun instead pumping out good graphics and game play like shit.

I'm pretty sure I could teach

I'm pretty sure I could teach you a thing or ten about computer hardware and software. All the way from manipulating cpu registers with assembly to cozy, easy coding with php. First of all, the PS3's 6 extra cores (apus) are highly specialized cores, just like the ones you find in gpus for shader processing, while the seventh is a regular PowerPC cpu used for general purpose computing. That alone gives the PS3's cpu much more power for gaming than any other CPU to date. You: LOLO ZOMG IF ITS SO POWEERFALL WHY IT DOSNT BEET PCSSS OR XBOX - It's quite simple really, no other cpu in the world has such an architecture, in order to take advantage of it devs need to spend time and effort learning how to code specifically for it and they just dont have time for that with all the cross platform games out there and with deadlines to meet. As an addendum, your analogy is horrible it would've been much more meaninful and fitting had you compared the amount of cylinders in engines rather than wheels in cars/bikes. But that shows just how simple you are and how deep your knowledge on the subject is.

PS3 has 8 (7+1) kernels in Cell processor, that don't mean shit. It seams like you think that its the same as a PC processor. It might be no better then a standard dual-core. PS3 exclusives do look better. Its up to the game company to utilize the power of the consoles. And who cares, Get a PC like some say.

You are correct about the

You are correct about the amount of cores in the STOCK cell processor. However the PS3 uses a modified cell, where one of the 7 apus was removed. No I don't think its the same as a PC processor, first and foremost because it uses the basic PowerPC architecture not x86(or x86-64), second because I know quite well what the apus are, shader like cores which beat any other kind of cpu core at processing repetitive code while not being so good with general computing (let me know if you want me to go deeper and explain the I/O and shared memory). If it performs better than a dual core or not it depends fully on the task its given and how the programmer uses the apus. PS3 exclusives are still bound by deadlines, devs dont have time to optimize their code for such a different architecture, and if you don't care, don't post. To me a console complements my pc nicely.

I'm not going to annoy anyone with stupid opinions on Intel vs. AMD...but if this console doesn't perform on a level graphically similar to current CG (standard CG - not the really good movie-kind), and have physics that rival real-world sumulators (water, sand, 100% destructive & reactive environments with life-like displacement {breaking, cracking, shattering, fracturing[real-time]}), then what's the point? Again, there's a lot to ask for, but let's all stop looking at the pretty lights and smooth\rough textures and get back to the basics and fundamental gaming elements...it should be you and your wits against X, Y, &\or Z...gaming limitations limit experience or just plain ruin them. But hey...to each their own. And besides, Sony needs you(r money)!

Let me tell you, physics and gameplay are quite different things. Gameplay is what makes the game fun, physics is eye candy just like good graphics. All I got to say is, don't expect this right away but look at the difference between ps3 and 360 games from when they first came out and when where they are at now. Optimization in the software itself goes a long way, you just never know.

I think you are asking for a lot there. Of course it's feasible, if you don't mind paying $200 on each game. Also, if your standards for CG allow movies to qualify as really good, I imagine you would be happy if it kept current gen graphics.
