The first images of Doom III have been released by Vicarious Visions, developers of the XBox version of the much anticipated game.
Following the news that Doom III XBox would feature co-operative online play without the split-screen options, these images seem to suggest that the PC and console versions will be remarkably similar. This similarity between the two versions does not stop at the use of the same models, monsters etc. but will go one step further, if the screenshots are anything to go by, since they present a level of detail similar to that used in Doom III for PC. What is even more reassuring is that these images display a sophisticated level of lighting effects which, if utilized efficiently, will carry the same eerie atmosphere PC gamers have enjoyed from Doom titles, intact to the XBox version.
Since E3 month is only round the corner, we are expecting a playable Doom III at the exhibition and a solid announcement on a release date from Mr. Carmack, a date which might set the stage for a Doom III/Half-Life 2 face-off this summer.
