Square Enix's controversial decision to develop Dragon Quest IX for the Nintendo DS handheld was rewarded handsomely with more than 4 million units sold to date. This however, isn't enough to convince the company to do the same with its more popular franchise, Final Fantasy. "In terms of Final Fantasy in general, the teams are really aiming for movie quality graphics and really dramatic storylines," producer Yoshinori Kitase explained. "For now, at least, consoles like the Xbox 360 and PS3 are the best place for this kind of cinematic experience to take place. We don't feel that it needs to transition necessarily to a handheld platform." Square Enix is currently developing Final Fantasy XIV for the PC and PS3. Final Fantasy XIII will be released on March 9th, 2010.
