DirectX 8.0 by NVidia?

NVIDIA Corporation today announced it developed and licensed enabling 3D features to Microsoft Corp. for their new DirectX 8.0 3D application program interface (API). NVIDIA contributions were in the areas of programmable vertex shaders, programmable pixel shaders, and rect/tri-patch support for high order surfaces. These features allow software content creators to use more elaborate artwork and flexible 3D rendering techniques in their applications and games.

"As a result of these new features, DirectX 8.0 will enable a new level of 3D graphics applications, and new GPUs, including NVIDIA's, bringing new 3D rendering and shading techniques to life," said Chris Jones, vice president of the Windows Client Division at Microsoft. "NVIDIA has been a great help in developing DirectX 8.0 as it is a leader in graphics technology."

DirectX 8.0 is Microsoft's latest and most advanced version of its popular 3D API that enables developers to write software for a wide variety of multimedia hardware including graphics, audio, video, networking, and input devices designed for PCs. NVIDIA and Microsoft worked closely during the development of DirectX 8.0 to jointly promote the API throughout the development community.

"NVIDIA's goal is to advance the state of the art in graphics technology, " said Jen-Hsun Huang, president and CEO for NVIDIA. "DirectX 8.0 will enable stunning experiences on Windows platforms and will quickly become the industry standard for graphics and multimedia applications. Our cooperation with Microsoft will drive rapid adoption of these NVIDIA graphics innovations by making them standard on Microsoft platforms industry-wide."

This agreement is part of a relationship between the two companies, aimed at delivering a lifelike interactive 3D experience. Other activities include co-training of Microsoft DirectX developers, DirectX VA development, and development of two key processors, the Media Communications Processor (MCP) and Graphics Processing Unit (GPU), for Microsoft's highly anticipated Xbox.

If you still have a Voodoo your pretty much behind times. Newer games will be devlope that will take more advantage of Gforces cards, espically when the Xbox comes out next year. If you want to brag about how great your Voodoo cards is playing old/out dated games than thats fine. I and everyone else will be playing kick ass games that are now available like Scarifice that take advantages of Nvidia GPU for the GForces cards. Sure you can play the game but you missing out on bette graphics and speed. Giants another games comming out in a couple of days.Open up your eyes and see what you are missing. Remember 3DFX quite the Gaming card bussiness. So what does that mean for all you Voodoo owners. Thinks what happen to S3 ??????

Eveyone braging about 3DFX Voodoo is better than Nvidia Gforces are really stupid. How are going to brag about a company that no longer developing gameing cards huh? Why do you think Microsoft pick Nvidia to design there video card for their X-BOX? How many developers over 150 braging about Nvidia video powers. Check the internet is out there. Now I use to own a Voodoo and it (key words is was) was a good card. But I not going to be ignorant and say they can kick Gforces ass! That a lie and your only going to be laugh at.......

Spass, you wont get amazing colour depth out of a CREATIVE card, because Creative are simply over-priced and under qualitity. If you have the chance get a Gilluemot Profit 2 or Profit2 MX. They are much better.NePe, you are retarded. VooDoos are the most over-priced and seriously under-performing peices of crap to roam the planet other than Playstations and PS2s. I thought that idiots like you had all but seized to exist....Rule on Nvidia, its all to go for!

Hey, I'm going to try to be objective and share some of my graphic card experiences with you (just to make this conversation seem intelligent ;) For quite some time last year, I was the happy owner of a Voodoo 3 3000. The games played fine, and I thought I had a pretty good FPS... until one day, I saw a friends computer with a GeForce card. I was dumbfounded. He had a system exactly like mine, except for the GeForce card, and that made a lot of difference. His frames were almost twice as fast as mine, and the shading was superb. After some deep, serious thought, I sold my Voodoo card, and bought my current card, a GeForce Annihilator 256 Pro :D! Now I'm happy. It hasn't disappointed me yet, and I don't think it will. Max out.
