"Nvidia's new chip [is] too big, too hot, too slow, and unmanufacturable", said The Inquirer's review before posting the first benchmark results for Nvidia's upcoming GeForce GTX 280. " It is all of that, and you will know why we said that in a few weeks", they added.
The Inquirer conducted an impressive sum of 28 tests, benchmarking Nvidia's upcoming monster to its current flagship GPU, the GeForce 9800 GTX; and here is what they found:

impressive benchmarks but could be better since its a monster GPU . . .

Monster gpu's. because we all want and can see the benefit of overkill resolutions on our €3000 widescreen.uh-huh.

higher resolutions means less need for AA, which has a harder impact on your FPS, so even if theirs no visible (other than aliasing) difference its worth it
First GeForce GTX 280 Benchmark Results
Actually on newer cards AA usually has less of a performance impact than upping the resolution, and looks better.

AA looks better, but I find with my 8800 SLI that resolution has less effect, because you need to hit 4-8 AA to get the same effect, if your on 4 AA then its about the same hit or less then a jump in res, but 8 is much slower. of course I haven't tested this, just, more what I've noticed

those are pretty impressive numbers. I mean, at the high resolutions its pulling 100% increase, and it seems to average around a 60% increase. not as good as the 8800GTX was over the 7900GTX, but still a much larger improvement over the lack luster 9800GTX

and this isn't a final build, nor are these the final drivers, if these aren't faked the that could be a good card

Very unimpressed

i want a job like that, where you just benchmark all day long
First GeForce GTX 280 Benchmark Results
yes because we all have 27" inch monitors and like running our games at 2800x1650...does the word necessity or realism mean anything to these benchmarking folks?
First GeForce GTX 280 Benchmark Results
notice how they benchmarked at lower numbers as well.... if you don't need it or want it, shut up and don't buy it. its as simple as that.

Downside to seeing a brand new card, is seeing my empty wallet from the last.Matter of fact, I like running my games at 2800x1650.It's usually pretty laggy.. but that doesn't mean I don't smile.Makes me feel fuzzy inside to know I'm wasting my time at a MASSIVE level. xD

First GeForce GTX 280 Benchmark Results
this thing costs 600 f**king dollars, bunch of bulls**t
First GeForce GTX 280 Benchmark Results
Not even the same driver version..Still, i'd rather get a HD4870

this year will definately be AMD/ATI's!Their new cards are incredible. How they have managed to keep the cost so low ($299 for the top end and $199 for the medium - which still beats the 8800GTX) is incredible.Too bad I've sold my PC and moved onto console gaming (because I was pissed off with high GPU costs lol!).
First GeForce GTX 280 Benchmark Results
the new top end ATI card is only about $300 and easily outperforms this overpriced rubbish in pretty much every benchmark (except for COD4 and some others).Goodbye Nvidia you're marketing tactics have been disgraceful.
First GeForce GTX 280 Benchmark Results
how can you honestly say that ati are faster . they havnt been since the launch of the 8800gtx 18 months ago .... lads your all too blind.... amd have lost the battle the next one is larabee (intel ) vs nvidia now that looks like fun.....
