AMD Refutes Reuters Report That It Is Looking For A Buyer

Last Tuesday, Reuters published a report that AMD has hired JPMorgan Chase & Comp. to explore options including selling the whole company or a large portion of its patent portfolio.

JPMorgan refused to comment on the report, but AMD denied it explicitly. "[AMD is] not actively pursuing a sale of the company or significant assets at this time," said AMD spokesperson Drew Prairie. "AMD's board and management believe that the strategy the company is currently pursuing to drive long-term growth by leveraging AMD's highly-differentiated technology assets is the right approach to enhance shareholder value."

Prairie’s statement is quite decisive, but the choice of the adjective "actively" might leave some wiggle room for the company to probe such possibilities informally.

In the first 3 quarters of 2012, AMD accumulated $710 million in losses.
