Capcom is shutting the Dead Rising studio

If a new Dead Rising game is ever released, it won't come from Capcom Vancouver (previously Blue Castle Games), as Capcom has announced that it's closing it down and its near 160 employees are all out of work. This brings an end to the company's 13-year history which began with the creation of baseball-focused titles like the Bigs, The Bigs 2, and MLB: Front Office Manager.

Capcom released a statement saying that it "has been focused on increasing the efficiency and growth of its game development operations. To support this objective, new R&D facilities and annual hiring have been underway at the Osaka headquarters. In consideration of this process, as a result of reviewing titles in development at Capcom Vancouver, Capcom has decided to cancel the development projects at this studio and will concentrate development of major titles in Japan."

It went on to thank the staff at its Vancouver studio for its hard work on Dead Rising 2, 3, and 4, as well as the 2017 mobile release of Puzzle Fighter.

PCGamesN reports that moving forward, the Vancouver developer will maintain a skeleton crew of employees to handle administration and the transition away from its daily operation. They will not continue working on ports of Puzzle Fighter, nor the next Dead Rising game which was thought to be in the works. It's not clear yet if either project will move to other Capcom studios around the world.

As for those most affected by the shuttering, many employees have purportedly been snapped up by EA Vancouver to help with the next Star Wars game.
