ModDB wants you to pick the mod of the year 2016

It's that time again guys... no not Christmas, or whatever Holiday festival you celebrate, but it's time for ModDB to crown the mod of the year! Of course though with thousands of the most highly rated ones to pick from, you have a lot of choice, but as always, there can only ever be one winner.

This is the 15th time that ModDB has run this contest - how time flies - and there are many returning champions looking to rank highly again this year, but no doubt there will be a number of new contenders too, as some great games and great mods have appeared over the past year.

What's impressive about many of the most highly rated mods though, is that they are often for older games. Some of the highest rated releases for this year's voting are for games like Mount and Blade: Warband which came out nearly six years ago, Half Life and Half Life 2, which are over a decade old each, Freelancer, which is certainly showing its age and many others.

The voting period will last for just over five days at the time of writing, at which point the best mods in the world will be crowned.

Sponsoring the contest this year is Sega, which recently released workshop modding support for Total War: Warhammer, as well as the Sega Mega Drive Collection, which has let more people than ever share custom ROMS and hacks in an official capacity.
